i'd been planning to move back to Europe since 2001 but got buried in the house repair hell all those years and then it finally sold on march 25th, Bando died June 7th and i just slid into a hole cos living in the back of the store was a nasty ass life.

brooklyn store and usa mailorder was stretching my work to 90 hrs/week and after paying my employees i was making $300 a month and that ain't worth the grind.

hamburg mailorder and store and distro is handled very ably by Dirk, so i can concentrate on all the mastering work for Norton in a comfortable spot in berlin and not get derailed by the constant distraction of the brooklyn store.

Mike Catalano (ex-Academy records, current Norton employee) will take over my remaining lease at the bkln store in late-feb or so and expand it, do mailorder of all kindsa stuff incl crypt crapola.

Hey PJ where is the Crypt shop in Hamburg? We'll be there at the weekend.

This show was by far the best collection of tunes of heard yet on any show. And that's saying a lot since all the shows on Garage Punk are great!

First heard about the Group Inerane revolution after perusing "101 Uses For Ice Scrapers."

Brother Panti, You probably already heard of them, but i'll shoot it out there...Group Inerane. Here a description: Group Inerane is the now sound of the Tuareg Guitar Revolution sweeping across the Sahara Desert and inspired by the rebel musicians that started this music as a political weapon used to communicate from the Libyan Refugee camps in the 1980s and 1990s. Spearheaded by the enigmatic guitar hero Bibi Ahmed, Group Inerane has been together for several years and carries the rich tradition of Tamachek guitar songs for another generation. These ten tracks are a combination of amplified roots rock, blues, and folk in the local Tuareg styles at times entering into full-on electric guitar psychedelia. This music is performed with two electric guitars, a drum kit and a chorus of vocalists. The recordings were captured live in the city of Agadez in the Republic of Niger. Group Inerane was also featured in the Sublime Frequencies DVD “Niger: Magic and Ecstasy in the Sahel”. Recorded by Hisham Mayet, this is the second Sublime Frequencies Vinyl Release. 180 gram vinyl, full-color gatefold jacket, and limited one-time pressing of 1000 copies. You can youtube them and Sublime Frequencies too. Oh and you can't forget one of the orginal fuzz guitars! Shamisen baby!

It's for this reason that I don't limit my tastes to just a few genres. I can find at least one song I'll dig from ANY genre - even mainstream pop music, lol. As far as 60s style tunes, I'm big on the whole trash revival that evolved from the early psychobilly scene, and consider those bands underrated. THE VIBES (!!!!!), Russian Roulette (pick up the 'fuckin' car 7" if you're into the Cramps), Stingrays, etc. etc. Garage covers with an upright bass, fuck yeah! I wouldn't be here today if it weren't for them : ). PS, new G&R blows. Amen.

Well, we just did another episode of Sonic Nightmares which turned out a little on the dull side (due to the fact we were all burned out by another fantastic weekend in Bern). The music from Gringo Starr and myself was miserably above average garage music while Beat-Man and El Tiki sent some weird and wild stuff out into the Internet airwaves. But this discussion taught me to practice what I preach, so I'm surely gonna be playing some stranger tracks in the near future!

Whatwave Dave: Bloodshot Bill is damn cool stuff for sure, I think he's in the new Slowboat Film called The Folk Singer, a real cool film about modern men trying to sing their way through life, a MUST see!

I've found alot of cool and unusual stuff in off-the-wall soundtracks. Everything from Drepung Loseling monk chants to Chinese village songs (I think this was on Pillow Book soundtrack). At any rate, they served as a good starting point. Mainly on art house and b movie stuff.

I gotta be honest- found lots of new things wandering around myspace on my lunch hour. I had no idea that using those old computer and gaming chips to make music had as big a following. Of course, they had to give the genre a name, chipcore. If you find something or someone interesting on myspace, click on the bands in their friends section, can lead to fun stuff.

But I guess none of that stuff is new.

I'd like to hear it. I'm always searching out cool instros for my wife to add to her background muzak at her cafe. There's all kinds of forgotten instro gems by non instro bands, like the Masonics had a cool one on their SFTRI Lp that I liked and so on. Always liked Richie Valens's "Fast Freight". Looking forward to what you can throw at us.

Almost there! Grand Prix has improved a great deal, the only remaining problem is the weak wah. Should have my Starstreams back soon, so if one of the Starstreams has a healthier wah I'll swap the modules with the Grand Prix. It was so much hassle to get this far!
