Also known as Goober hats, Jughead or Jaghead caps, Whoopee caps, inverted fedoras, etc. I love these things. Always wanted one. So last night I plunked down the $22.95 and ordered a black one from the KingPin. I plan on putting some of my favorite buttons on it, the likes of which no button beanie has probably ever seen. Yeah, I'll probably get some stares when I wear it (and my wife will probably think I'm fuckin' nuts), but, ya know, like that's not ever happened before! Ha.

But the real reason for me starting this topic was I wanted to share this blog post that details the history of the button beanie. I thought it was a perfect post for Talkin' Trash. Check this out:

      http://learning2share.blogspot.com/2009/04/search-term-jugheads-hat.html

And check out this beautiful customized original from the '30s (maybe even earlier):

See more pics of that one here: http://www.etsy.com/listing/41010047/sos-yer-ol-man-original-1930s-whoopee

Any of you have one of these? If not, you should get one. Let's start a movement. Let's bring back the button beanie!

Yeah. Jim Heath is wearing a Goober cap on the third Reverend Horton Heat album , and in the "Psychobilly Freakout" video , now that you mention it , so it'd stand to reason that would
      be prime merch material.

It's weird how things like this pop up out of the blue after you start talking about 'em. I was just on Facebook and saw that one of my friends was wearing a Reverend Horton Heat button beanie. At first, I thought he'd just taken a patch and sewn it on one like I'd bought, but I did a quick Google search and found that the Rev is actually selling them on his site:

Funny... his look *exactly* like the Kingpin beanie that I bought, but it has his patch sewn on it, and they're selling them for $38! Holy cow! That's some markup.

I've seen a few Hipster chicks wearing Goober caps , one was named Judy ! Judy ! Judy! , but , seriously , not enough to call it a movement. Yet.  Howard Morris was both the voice of Jughead , and Ernest T. Bass ,in the flesh.

I pulled out a whole shitload of 1" buttons that I had stashed in a desk drawer, but I'm still not sure I want 'em on it. Kinda like it better without 'em, I think.

I have a pretty big head. It was too small when I got it. I had to order one of those Hat Jack Hat Stretchers, which worked really well at stretching it out a size or two.

By the way, it's pretty amazing the looks and stares I get when I wear it.

It was hard to get a good pic of this hat... it's black, so the light has to be just right or you can't really see the jagged edge around it. Anyway, here's one:

By the way, since movies get discussed here a lot, here's a scene from "Death Wish" (1974) with Jeff Goldblum wearing one!

OK, will do. I got it a while back and had to order one of those Hat Jack Hat Stretchers to stretch it out a bit since it was pretty tight ("one size fits all" my ass!). But that worked pretty well. I'll have to get the camera out and snap some pics. I wore it to work yesterday and people really didn't know what to make of it. One guy said "What is this, 1935?" Haha!
