  • Bio From the Blue Ash Music Bio

Frank Secich was born in Sharon, Pennsylvania on June 14, 1951. As a kid he loved the songs of Buddy Holly and Johnny Horton. The first record he ever bought was "(Marie's The Name) His Latest Flame" by Elvis Presley but seeing the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show in 1964 changed his life. Soon after he started playing the harmonica and in1965 got his first guitar after seeing Bob Dylan perform at Cleveland's Music Hall. In 1966, Frank along with school-mates and future Blue Ashers, Jim Kendzor and Jeff Rozniata, started their first
semi-serious group "The City Jail" sometimes known as "Left Eye". Playing parties, teen dances and church socials doing Kinks, Animals, Byrds, Beatles and Rolling Stones covers "The City Jail" would prevail until 1967.
Later that year, it was on to "The Great Hibiscus" a psychedelic lunatic asylum which in turn and sequence hallucinated into the infamous "Mother Goose Band".(The last singer of Mother Goose in the early
1970's, would be the one and only Stiv Bators).

After leaving Mother Goose in June, 1969, Frank
and Jim Kendzor went to Nashville (where they wrote
the song "Don't Go To Nashville!") and upon returning
started Blue Ash. Rounding out the group were Bill
"Goog" Yendrek on lead guitar, David Evans on drums
and legendary local artist, Chuck Borawski on bass. At
the last minute Chuck painted himself into a corner
and was never seen again, so Frank switched from oboe
to bass guitar. Blue Ash debuted in the fall of 1969
and gained a steadfast following in the tri-state
area. After their first guitarist tragically
disappeared in 1970 (amidst rumors of Spontaneous
Human Combustion) Frank called songwriter and
guitarist Bill "Cupid" Bartolin and asked him to join
Blue Ash. Frank and Bill immediately hit it off and
started writing pounds of songs. In 1972, Blue Ash
signed with Peppermint Productions of Youngstown and
shortly after they were signed to a recording deal with Mercury Records by legendary A&;R man and rock writer Paul Nelson.

The first Blue Ash album "No More, No Less" was
released in 1973. Throughout the next year Blue Ash
toured extensively. Much of the years 1974-1976 were
spent on the road and in the recording studio and
culminating with their second LP "Front Page News"being released on Playboy Records in 1977. Blue Ash called it off in 1979 after 1200 live performances, writing over 1000 songs and recording (at last count) 219 of them. Most remain unreleased
    and unheard today.

In October of 1978, Frank started writing songs
with old friend Stiv Bators. They were signed to Bomp
Records in 1979 and released three singles "It's Cold Outside", "Not That Way Anymore" and "I Had Too Much To Dream (Last Night)" in addition to the LP
"Disconnected" over the next two years.
1979-81 was also spent touring North America with
    various Dead Boys line-ups.

Frank was in a short-lived reformation of
Blue Ash with George Cabaniss and
David Quinton (of the Disconnected Band) along with
Eddy Best and Jim Kendzor in 1981. At the beginning of
1982 he joined "Club Wow" in Cleveland which included
Jimmy Zero, Billy Sullivan and Jeff West. Club Wow released only one single "The Prettiest Girl". Club Wow
lasted until 1985 when it dissolved and disappeared.
Club Wow left behind some great recordings, "Norman
Green" and "You Don't Go Away" to name what some would
    call two.
In 1985, Frank decided to try his new head behind
the board and produced the wonderful Infidels' single
"Mad About That Girl" b/w "A Thousand Years Ago." He
produced another 45, an EP and two LP's for the
Infidels over the next 5 years. During that time he
also produced tracks for Hard Luck, The Dead Boys, The
Upside Downs and Kashmyre. Frank disappeared to live
quietly in 1990. Today, he lives LOUDLY in Hermitage, PA with his wife, Lisa and son, Jake.

In 2004, a 2CD retrospective of 44 previously unreleased Blue Ash songs called "Around Again" was released on Not Lame Records. The original Blue Ash line-up got together for the first time in 25 years and played a half dozen gigs in Philadelphia, Youngstown and Cleveland. Also, in 2004, Frank wrote the liner notes for the Bomp Records reissue of Stiv Bators "Disconnected" album and "LA Confidential" which is a compilation of Stiv's Bomp singles and rare recordings.

Throughout 2006 and into 2007, Frank has been recording with old
friends Terry Hartman, Pete Drivere and John Koury.
They are called the Deadbeat Poets. In late 2007, Pop Detective Records of New Jersey released the Deadbeat Poets' debut album "Notes From The Underground" and it was also released in Japan in Vivid Sound Records. The Deadbeat Poets also toured England and Scotland in May of 2008. The Deadbeat Poets continued to tour and record in 2009.
