      I want to record songs digitally.  What's the easiest way?  I have never done a home recording before and would like to keep the cost at the low end.

      Here is a great deal on a great little device that you can do a lot with. It is a very small multi-tracking porta-studio that doubles as a stereo field recorder, much like the ones mentioned above, but you can do so much more with it.       The cheapest and easy way is using a freeware called AUDACITY, that's the same most use for recording podcast. You just need a mic and enter in your PC mic-in and record. It figure as a virtual multi-track recorder. It's good for start workin' in easy way, and then try to improve with required tools according to your needs.
