As many of you know, the FDA went after 4 Loko, or "FOUR loko" as it's spelled on the 24 oz. can, due to the danger it proposes to its consumers...For those who don't know, this was a flavored malt beveredge, filled with taurine, guarana, caffeine, sugar, and of course, alcohol.  There were numerous fruity concoctions you could choose from, like fruit punch (my favorite), grape, orange, etc., plus there was a lemon tea as well.  Speaking from personal experience, chugging just 1 of these sweet, tasty (well, depending on your tastes) delights would seriously start delivering you to the "Promised Land" of drunkeness!  Inexpensive, you could find these brightly colored cans in most all convenience stores, ghetto grocer marts, and those creepy gas station/porn shops sitting on the side of the highway...So the "fever" for this party punch catches on, especially with the college students, and let's face it, high school kids would pay their older bros or some wino on the street to go in and grab a few cans with said kids' allowance money.  Then the grim reality sets in that some folks can't handle their alcohol!  I mean, I would chug 2 cans and I would totally black out!  Hmmm...consuming anything alcoholic in a fast rate can make anybody go do an undie raid at the local preacher's house!  Ok, so now you have "kids" that go waaaaay overboard with this stuff and get alcohol poisoning, puke their guts out, or even worse, die!  Again, how many other types of liquor can do that to you when you decide to break all Jim Morrison one night?  Well, we got some kids dying or just getting really sick who make it on the news...And what was laying around these alcoholic Russian Roulette players, but empty cans of 4 Loko!  Yes!  I've woke up before to empty bottles of Evan Williams and Mad Dog 20/20 myself, as well as not remembered what the hell happened after chugging down the powerful "4"...So there is a public outcry against what happens to be one of my fave "cheap drunk" drinks, the FDA just has to do something!  So now, state governments work to ban this brand from stores, and of course, the Drink Four company bows down and agrees to lift the caffeine out of its formula...I don't have an issue with that, but if I'm not mistaken, bars can still serve Red Bull with vodka, and anybody can mix a Full Throttle with rum!  So was the FDA wrong in going after not only Drink Four, but other makers of similar brands?  So how many times has college students gotten so sick off say, Wild Irish Rose, vodka shots, Tequila, etc.?  But the FDA never went after them....Hmmm...What are your thoughts?

You know, my problem with 4 Loko was it fucked me up fast, made me crash, then I was up in the middle of night for hours, not able to sleep! At least now, in my humble opinion, it does taste better, and I can sleep (or pass out), and not wake up for hours!

Hahahaha!  Don't get me wrong, I loved the boost from the caffeine, but I hated crashing hard early, then waking up in the middle of the night wide awake!  I think you'll like the new formula, you don't feel quite as bad the next day!

Nah man, the clerk did mention his store still has about 80 cans of the old stuff and when it sells out he will order the new stuff without the boost.

I do believe that the caffeine has been removed; I bought a can of watermelon flavor and it tasted better...and I didn't wake up at 3 A.M. wide awake!  And I still got a tremendous buzz off 1 can!  Obviously removing the caffeine (and whatever the hell else was in there), may have been key...

      Fun cheap buzz.

I just bought 2 cans at the store.

The liquor clerk told me they could send it back or sell off what they had left in stock.

I agree it's nasty stuff, but hey, it's an improvement from when I use to drink Thunderbird & Kool-aid from when I was a kid.

Exactly!  I'm just not entirely sure if this was something politically motivated (like many things), or there was a true safety concern of mixing alcohol with caffeine...???  If that's the case shouldn't bars stop serving those shooters with Red Bull & vodka?  Or just pulling energy drinks off the shelves, since after all, anybody can take them and mix them with alcohol?  I think there's some kind of deeper agenda possibly?  I just don't get it!  When "groups" were going after the "Jackass" series, and they wanted it pulled, did they ever stop and consider stopping the "America's Funniest Home Videos" series?  If you were to watch that show (if it's even still on), it's basically rednecks doing Jackass type stunts anymore!  (And I never found ANY amusement from America's dumbfuck video shows)...So you can have some celebrity dorks hosting a show of dumbasses doing stupid shit, and it's ok, because it's FAMILY entertainment, but you can't have (giggle giggle) professionals doing this for a living?  Anyway, I think I'm getting off the subject here, but I will say that I just stopped at my local "NASCAR promoting" convenience store and they were selling 4 LOKO!!  But it's funny, there's no ingredients listed on the can, yet I'm still getting fucked up off it!  Hmm...maybe 4 Loko just said they were gonna remove the old formula...which was my thoughts all along...Tell those FDA folks that they changed things, BUT THEY DIDN'T!!!  Hahahahahahaha!!!!!

My thoughts are---government overreach, and more meddling with the rights of individuals in their pursuit of happiness, punishing everyone for the silly irresponsibility of a few.  Welcome to the nanny state.  But we "need" the FDA, don't we?  Because, you know, private businesses would just go hog-wild with indiscriminate killing of their paying customers without some government bureaucrats giving them permission (or withholding same permission) to sell their products.  And when some businesses can just capture the regulators, pay them off, in order to achieve a market advantage against their competition, in the meantime allowing the public to falsely believe the agency in question is actually trying to protect us, then how safe does that make you feel?
