    • .....And we cant forget the fabulous Festival Beat in Italy! This Festival has been going strong for 15 years or so around the Piacenza and Parma area. For the last few years the festival has been held in a small town called Salsomaggiore in Emilia Romagna, Parma. Nearly every touring European garage-type band has eventually played there as well as many American bands new and old (or should I say legendary). The Festival Beat is 4 days (Thursday-Sunday) of non-stop stimulation with a pool party in the afternoon with DJ's and drinking then at six o'clock or so it's off to the pub for a few live bands and DJ's and more drinking. The main acts play on Friday and Saturday nights (4 or 5 bands a night with only 10 Euro entrance charge!!!) at a large open air park with food, drinks, and record and vintage clothing stalls. After the bands there is of course dancing until the pool party starts up again. I have been to the Festival Beat three times. Twice playing in a band and once as a party-goer and unlike a lot of 'scene' oriented festivals people are totally open and mixed and extremely sociable and up for having a great party and not criticizing you for not wearing the right kind of Beatle boots. The organization is flawless (for Italy that is really saying something) and the festival crew is partying right along with all the rest of the bands and the public. If you haven't been there start making your arrangements for next year. FESTIVAL BEAT http://www.myspace.com/festivalbeat

    • Dude,
For me this year absolutely Sjock festival in Gierle. With 2 of mine all time favorites The Monsters and The Sonics. I did not know what to expect from a bunch of granddadios, but The Sonics where absolutely fantastic. It 's not about age or trendy outfits or fucking hyped by todays music industries, it's all about a bunch of good songs well preformed by their makers.

(New Marshmallow Overcoat video up at the myspace page soon, btw.)

    • The Cynics "Rock and Roll" is my favourite album, bar none....and the first 2 and a half Lyres albums are hard to beat.

    • July 25, 2008 2:30 PM CDT
    • I'll throw another one out for the hell of it: STAY SICK by The Cramps. I know most folks probably like their earlier stuff better, but this has always been my favorite due to "Shortin' Bread," (I've used that one for a radio promo) "All Women Are Bad," "Muleskinner Blues" and especially "Bikini Girls with Machine Guns."

Jesse Hector/ Hammersmith Gorilla's (I beg to differ with some...It IS GARAGE!

Well, I'm not laughing at you at all! More like laughing with you! I think you've now completed my last post!
The first two long players by The Shadows of Knight - Gloria (1966) + Back Door Men (1967) on Dunwich are definitely top contenders for best garage album (with songs like 'I got my mojo workin', 'Light Bulb Blues', 'I Just Want To Make Love To You' and of course their version of 'Gloria' by Them) 'I’m Gonna Make You Mine' (on Back Door Men) is probably one of thee GREATEST garage tracks of all time!
I love that you can tell they were so young and enthusiastic, yet have such a snotty quality to them. And they proved just how good cover songs could be. To me Gloria just epitomizes the spirit of that era : ).

    • The first one 'Gene Vincent and the Bluecaps -Blue Gene Bop'; The second one is pretty good too (the one with 'Catman'); Gene Vincent has some great records up to the end of his life; 'Bird doggin', the song and album is the most garagey one;it has been reissued a couple of times through the years so you can find it a cheap price; Bop it up!

      Warm week end;

    • July 23, 2008 11:39 PM CDT
    • Haha yah I noticed that too a few weeks back playing it at a party. That game can get pretty intense after a few pops.

Unfortunately, no one wanted to do the Konks song with me... they wanted to do that Oasis tune. What the hell is that!?

      Happens all the time.

By the way, enjoyed hearing The Dickies' "Gigantor" on your last one. (I wasn't dreaming that was I?)

Better be careful. Those kooky dreams could turn into sonic nightmares.

    • Maybe this place is attracting fugitives from the law looking for a "hideout." Indeed, Gringo might be right that the term podcast isn't as well known as one might assume. Some might think you can only hear then on iPods -- and there are still a lot of folks who don't have iPods. I do have a pod, but the main way I listen to the podcasts is on the feedcast player. I'm listening to Florida Rocks again at this very moment. Often I play it while I sleep because it gives me kooky dreams.

    • Yeah, I noticed that as well. A few of us are trying to steer these folks in the right direction. I even commented on this phenomenon on my podcast a couple of episodes back. I can imagine that quite a few people Google garage punk, though. I did it just now and this is what I get: 1. GaragePunk Podcast 2. Garagepunk.com Forums (garagepunk.com/forums/) 3. Garage Punk at Wikipedia 4. Garage Rock at Wikipedia 5. The GaragePunk Hideout (!) .....Well, if I didn't know better and had to take a pick The GaragePunk Hideout sounds pretty fucking cool! Gonna check that shit out....but on the other hand, a podcast is music, right? Garage Punk music or Garage Punk Hideout? Hmmm.....I'm torn! It could also be that the term 'Podcast' is not as well known as we think... --Professor Gringo

    • It blows my mind how many people are joining the Hideout that have never heard the GaragePunk Podcast. I set this network up for fans of the website and the podcasts that we produce (and have produced for almost three years now), yet day after day after day we get people signing up here who answer the "Favorite GaragePunk Podcast" question in their profiles with question marks or "what's a podcast?" or some such confusion. So if you guys aren't finding the Hideout via the main site (GaragePunk.com obviously), then how the hell are you finding us? I would seriously really like to know...

    • KING KHAN & THE SHRINES He was by far the craziest, most energetic and most all-around bitchen acts I saw at this festival in Chicago. It was so frenzied, I was exhausted by the end. And it's not just because I'm an old fart. My son was exhausted too. If you ever have the chance to see King Khan live, DO IT!
