Thanks for the responses people. I actually have a few old issues of Rocktober and Ugly Things. I didn't even realize they were still going. I remember I had the Rocktober "History of Masked Rock n Roll" issue which was really cool.

I'd 2nd the nod to MRR....lately they've been doing more current garagepunk stuff and also covering some of the 77 punk that seems to be getting a bit more interest lately with some of the original bands reuniting. On the present scene there's Mongrel Zine out of Vancouver: http://www.mongrelzine.ca/ But i might be kinda biased on this one as i write for it...LOL...they cover lots of garagepunk, cool art and the last 5 issues have also come with a really cool comp CD. There's also Lost In Tyme from Greece: http://www.myspace.com/lostintymefanzine Again, i might be biased as i write for this one too. This covers some 60's garage, lots of 80's garage and some current 60's style garage bands. Also comes with a really cool comp CD. And like Alex says above, Ugly Things and Shindig are DEFINITELY worth getting... There's a few others out there as well. and

Man, I really miss Horizontal Action. Noises From the Garage was great, too. Gearhead magazine is a pretty worthwhile read, esp. if you dig cars and punk/rock'n'roll. But yeah, get a subscription to Ugly Things. Mike Stax is a member of this network, actually, but I don't think he checks in very often. Too bad... it'd be great to have him contributing more.

In print, there's Ugly Things and Shindig. Ugly Things is by far the best. In fact, it's incredible. I do think that MRR has lots of entertaining reads that are non-music, and they do cover a decent amount of garage. They just had a cover story on Bad Sports and Ty segall.

Online, I'd recommend Terminal Boredom, Garage Hangover, Nortonville, Kicksville66, The Houndblog, WFMU Rock 'n' Soul Ichiban, KBD Records.

Can anybody suggest some good ones?  I'm mainly interested in print, but online are also cool. 

 

I don't mean stuff like MRR which seems more hardcore punk and political oriented. 

 

Stuff that focuses on garage, garage-punk, surf etc. is what I want. 

 

The best I've found so far are both from Greece.  Lost in Tyme and Rumble Skunk.  They are both great and have tons of content, but only seem to come out once or twice a year.

I've never seen any and I'd be very surprised if any existed at all. Photos from that time period are rare enough as it is. Filming bands back then (esp. live) rarely ever happened unless they happened to be on a TV variety/dance show and someone saved the footage.
