      1. M&M Meats....Runners Love....from the Transistor 66 100th release download.

      2. Surprise Party.....Comedown.... as above.

      3. Captain Scarlet and The Mysterons....Are You Really Gone...from Four Whom The Bell Tolls 7" on What Wave Records 1988 and came free witn an issue of What Wave zine. Features world reknowned graphic designer Andrew Lewis on the drums, who just happened to design CHRW's latest shirt. And we're going to be playing a lot of record on this show, as Sunday March 20th is the London Record Show at Centennial Hall. I've got a table and will have copies of this record for sale.

      4. The Minstrels...Rock'n'Roll Soldier...from the Come Out To Play EP on What Wave Records from 1989. Quebec based power pop/beat combo who also appeared on a couple of WW cassettes.

      5. Coaching For Sara..... Stick With You...pre-release of a CD that's due any day. Local power poppers who you can catch at an acoustic show April 2nd at Grinning Gator.

      6. Rory Gallagher....Secret Agent....from the Calling Card LP 1976 and the start of our Irish set. Lou Martin on keys really shines on this one and those little screams Rory lets go make the hairs on the back of my neck stick up! Easily my fave Rory Gallagher LP from my collection (only have about 10 of his LP's) and one that i constanly go back to!

      7. The Wheels....Road Block....from Pebbles Volume 6. These guys were pals with Them and even shared a couple of tunes: Gloria and Bad Little Woman which oddly, were both covered in the US by The Shadows Of Knight. This particular track is a ferocious 2 chord stomper and was oft covered by The Cynics live in their early days.

      8. Them....Mystic Eyes.... from a Them compilation LP. Features Van Morrison on vocals and similar in structure to the above Road Block but toned down a bit for the masses. Still a killer track to these ears!

      9. The Undertones....Teenage Kicks...from a Canadian Sire 7" from 1979.  Oft billed as legendary UK DJ John Peel's fave single this one has appeared in many different incarnations. Thought i'd play the Canuck 7" as the Record Show is sunday and you might find a copy of this record at the show.

      10. Dany Laj and the Looks....Queen St West....from the Word On The Street CD. Finally found a copy of this on vinyl at Grooves here in town. Dany and company will be in London on Friday April 1st at Call The Office, opening for Paul Collins Beat!! Possible show of the year contender!!

      11. The Nerves....Hanging On The Telephone....from the One Way Ticket LP and this is the original 1976 demo of the song. Later a hit by Blondie. This features Paul Collins on drums as part of the first power pop trio; Peter Case, Jack Lee and Paul Collins.

      12. 10 Heads....You Clean Me Up...from the Swimming and Singing CD from 2001. These guys are at the St Regis on saturday night for an early show.

      13. 10 Heads....Solid On The Funky Bass.....a demo for Mark Deroux, legendary local bass player who passed several years back. Sheep Look Up, which Mark was an integral part of, are up for an award at the Jack Richardson Awards next month.

      14. Dead Moon.... Don't Burn The Fires....Tombstone 7" from 1988 and goes out to drummer Andrew Loomis who passed last week.  Guitarist/vocalist Fred Cole has now retired from rock'n'roll and wil only be doing acoustic shows with his wife Toody.

      15. Dead Moon....Black September....Tombstone 7" from 1989 and this song also appeared on a What Wave cassette compilation.

      16. Dead Moon...Dagger Moon....Tombstone 7" from 1990.

      17. Noble Savages....I Don't Wanna Be A Boy No More....from a new Transistor 66 Records 7" called Four Off The Floor.

      18. US Depressed....Motorized....demo from this Arizona combo that features Orin Portnoy, former Optic Nerve and many other bands member.

      19. Jehosaphat Blow...Real Cool Party....from the recent Z Grade Rock'n'Roll download. From China and bedroom based combo.

      20. The Finks...Can't Say No....local 7" from 1987 that features Pete Fink on bass and vocals.

      21. The New Grand....Ready Steady Go.....local 7" from 1995.

      22. Legend Killers...You'll Get Yours....from the Better Than Hammerin' 7" from 1989 on What Wave Records.

      23. Strait Jacket....De Briefing.....7" from Stratford Ontario, probably early 80's.

Big Thanx for all the phone calls, emails, facebook messages and Hey's on the street!!!

I'll be at the London Record Show on sunday with a table of records, CD's, cassettes, zines etc. Come say Hey!! The show opens at 11AM and is at Centennial Hall in downtown London Ontario.

Back again next week and had a request for some Forgotten Rebels live here in London....and who knows what else we'll be spinning!!

    • Radio What Wave Playlist March 10 2016

      1. Dave Rave....Just LIke Honey....froma 1990 7" on Mole Records out of Hamilton. Dave and Hailee Rose are playing saturday night in Brantford Ontario at a small pub.

      2. The Hypnotics....Inside Pop Revolution....from the Modern Art Entertainment CD and from Windsor Ontario as this is the start of a short Windsor set. This will be issued on vinyl in the next month or so.

      3. Lost Patrol....Second Time Around...from a 1988 7". Lost Patrol appeared on many What Wave cassettes and Mr Garager's Neighbourhood (LP we co-released with OG Records back in 1989). They played here in London many many times, at long gone venues like Key West, Brunswick Hotel and Electric Banana.

      4. Jack Scott....The Way I Walk...from the Rocks LP and originally released back in the late 50's and much later covered by The Cramps. We attempted to play Good Times in this set as well, but the cassette machine wouldn't co-operate.

      5. Poison Girls...Persons Unknown...split 7" with Crass.  Lead vocalist/guitarist Vi Subversa passed a couple weeks back and this is our tribute to her. She started the band in 1976 when she was in her early 40's and was probably the oldest punk rocker at that time. Intense intelligent lyrics bemoaning the state of society and how women were treated were often topics for Poison Girls songs. They played many many shows with Crass, yet their music was way beyond punk in it's many textures and sounds, yet was accepted and cheered on by the difficult to please UK punk scene. Vi was 80 years old when she passed and probably the oldest punk in the books.

      6. Poison Girls...Political Love....from the Hex 12" from 1979.  Listening to Poison Girls records now, they don't sound dated and still give me the same thrill as when i bought them as soon as they came across the pond to North America. Never got a chance to see this band and there are few live clips on youtube. But their one live album sounds as good as anything they did in the studio.

      7. Poison Girls....State Control....from the Chappaquiddick Bridge LP from 1980.  The lyrics still ring true today.

      8. Poison Girls....Another Hero Bites The Dust...as above. Fitting song to end the trib to Vi Subversa!

      9. Coaching For Sara.....Tonight's The Night....brand new and from London Ontario!! Some mighty fine powerpop and they have a CD coming out in the next week or so. You'll be hearing it on Radio WW for sure!

      10. Grievances....Cool To You For Awhile....from a bandcamp download and also from London Ontario! These guys are opening for Red Arms at Call The Office on March 24th.

      11. Don't Touch The Dancers....Only Rock'n'Roll....from the Laundramats Make Me Nervous download and also from London Ontario. Recorded awhile back, this was just released, but the band has broken up. Saw them a couple of times and they put on a good show!

      12. Stone Soul....Fire In My Veins...demo and also from London area. This is Ryan from In The Red's combo, who used to go under the name Vintage Experience.

      13. Combatix....I Got Pills....from the Chinese Songs For Bad Boys CD. From France where they are known as one of the top garage bands in the country!

      14. Said The Ripper....Flight Of The Vickers...brand new download and they are from California. Guitarist Jordan Tarlow may be familiar to some for his work with Outta Place and The Fuzztones among others.

      15. Excelsior....Undead Fourth Reich...from their 7" EP, Punk Floyd.  From London Ontario and they have a show at the Richmond on saturday night.

      16. The Beatles...A Hard Day's Night...taken from the soundtrack LP and goes out to producer/fifth Beatle George Martin who passed away this week. George took these greasy leather clad lads fresh from the concrete jungles of Germany, and turned them into the world's biggest band due to his ear for recording. Might have had some help in the fashion end from Brian Eppstein! But George helped create the sound from 1962 and helped change the musical world for the better! A genius that could do more with just 4 tracks then most can imagine! Rip George Martin.

      17. The Beatles...I Wanna Be Your Man...from the With The Beatles LP. This is a song they gave to The Rolling Stones who recorded it, but also did their own version of it.

      18. The Beatles...And Your Bird Can Sing....from Yesterday and Today, the first Beatles LP i ever purchased back in 1968. This is my original copy from back then that i played, and you can hear a bit of noise, but vinyl was built to last back then! I played this one as The Flamin' Groovies covered this at one time.

      19. The Beatles....I Am The Walrus...from Magical Mystery Tour, the second LP i ever bought by The Beatles and this is my original being played. A little rougher than above, but this is the mono North American version of this song and my fave version.  George did such an amazing job on the production of this song and the whole LP!

      20. Touch and Gos....I Like My Car....from a self titled cassette from 1990. Vancouver based and the beginning of our Vancouver set. Brian from Drums Along The Gardiner drums on this one right after he moved to Vancouver.

      21. Pointed Sticks....American Song....from the Perfect Youth LP from 1981. Saw these guys at least once at The Cedar Lounge here in London back in the day. First band i can remember seeing that played a Sonics cover!!

      22. Modernettes...Barbra....from the Get It Straight CD that collects most of their recordings. From 1980 and this song should have been a major hit!

      23. New Town Animals....Rock'n'Roll Scene....from the Is Your Radio Active CD on Mint Records and from 2001.

Thanks for the phone calls, emails, facebook messages and Heys!!! Don't forget to check out this and other archived shows at the CHRW website!

Back again next week. We'll be doing a trib to Andrew Loomis of Dead Moon who  passed away this week. And maybe something on Keith Emerson of The Nice, Gary Farr and The T Bones, PP Arnold and ELP as he passed today.

    • Radio What Wave Playlist March 3/2016  Part 2 of Peter Moore/Jan Haust Special

This is part 2 of our special on Peter Moore and Jan Haust...here's what was posted on the last blog to give you an idea of how important these 2 figured in the early London punk rock era:  In honour of former CHRW DJ Peter Moore (Simon Less was his onair name) and Jan Haust winning a Grammy for Best Historical Album, we decided to play some of the bands that Peter has recorded and/or mastered and Jan has released on his label OPM. Both played major roles in the early punk/new wave scene here in London Ontario. Jan worked at Records On Wheels, a downtown record store that was the very first in the are to stock and sell punk/new wave records. Peter helped get CHRW off the ground, recorded many, many bands and also released the first local cassette compilation, Domestic Animals. Major CONGATS to both on their Grammy win!!!!

And we've gotta congratulate Sheep Look Up as they were inducted into the Jack Richardson Music Hall Of Fame!  Sheep Look Up forged out of Radio 4 into Sheep Look Up around 1982 and continued for several years, releasing a cassette and 12" EP before crashing and burning. We'll do a proper bio/history prior to their induction next month.

      1.  Sheep Look Up....Jumper....from their cassette produced by Peter Moore. Peter did a lot of work with Sheep Look Up and helped transform them into a contender.

      2. B Girls....Jealousy....from the Who Says Girls Can't Rock CD on OPM Records and mastered by Peter Moore. B Girls were one of the first all girl punk/new wave combos and released a 7" on Greg Shaw's Bomp Records. There was supposed to be an LP, but it never happened, so all we've got is this CD. London connection for this band is Marcy Saddy, who played drums.

      3. The Curse...He's My Boy....from the Teenage Meat CD on OPM and mastered by Peter Moore. This particular track was recorded live here in London at the Forest City Gallery 11/25/1977 by Mike Niederman on cassette. Only the third ever punk rock show here in London, with The Diodes and Eddie and the Hot Rods pre-dating this one. Within a month, that would all change as The Demics would finally emerge from Niederman's loft to create a new voice for the insurance capitol of North America!

      4. The Mods....Reaction....from the Twenty 2 Months CD on OPM and mastered by Peter Moore. Toronto's first mod combo with some powerpop overtones. They played here at The Cedar Lounge under this name, and later with the shortlived name The News. Drummer David Quinton Steinberg would go on to The Dead Boys, Stiv Bators Band, solo before settling on a career in entertainment law. He presently drums in the reformed Arson in Toronto.

      5. The Forgotten Rebels....I Think Of Her...from the Tomorrow Belongs To Us CD on OPM and mastered by Peter Moore. This particular tracks was recorded December 1980 at The Cedar Lounge here in London.

      6. The Viletones....Rather Be With Me...from the Taste Of Honey CD on OPM Records and mastered by Peter Moore.

      7. The Ugly....One Foot In The Gutter...from the Disorder CD on OPM records and produced by Peter Moore.  These guys were supposed to open for The Curse (see entry above) at the Forest City Gallery show and didn't show up. They did release one 7" record that is much more poppy than what this CD would lead you to believe.

      8. Ugly Ducklings....Don't Bug Me....from the Reduction recordings. Ugly Ducklings were a Toronto based 60's garage combo of extremely high calibre! Easily the best in Canada! This particular recording was done in the 90's and produced by Peter Moore.

      9. The Razorbacks....It's Saturday Night....from the Go To Town LP released on OPM records and produced by Peter Moore. Late 80's/early 90's rockabilly combo noted for their wild live shows! Released at least 2 LP's and a couple of 7" records.

      10. Jr Gone Wild....God Is Not My Father....from the Pull The Goalie CD on Stony Plains Records and produced by Peter Moore. Edmonton combo from the mid 80's to mid 90's that played several times here in London. There's also a movie coming out soon about the band that might feature a couple of pics taken here in London.

      11. UIC....Pushed Into The Hole....from the Wiseman Sessions 1989 and mastered by Peter Moore. From Exeter Ontario and these guys have a reunion show scheduled for April 2nd in Oshawa for the Mike Star Benefit Show. See you all there!!

      12. The Chickens....25 Years....from the Prepare to Plug in CD from 2000 and mastered by Peter Moore.  4 out of 5 Chickens came from UIC and the band moved in a decidedly more pop direction. Power pop at its finest!! A band that when they played live, could get this old fart up and dancing for the whole show!!

      13. Art Bergmann....Our Little Secret....from the Design Flaw CD on OPM records and produced by Peter Moore. Art's been around since the mid 70's and this particular release is from 1998 and also features UK guitar whiz Chris Spedding. Warts and all, this is Art as loose, raw and honest as it gets! There's a new Art Bergmann project about to be released.

      14. The Sadies....Another Year....from the Darker Circles LP from 2010 and mastered by Peter Moore. One of my fave Sadies tracks and they could have written this one about me. Liner notes by the proprieter of Ugly Things magazine, Mike Stax which gives the band a whole nother level of street cred!

      15. The Screwed....Another Girl, Another Planet....from the 1977 CD and produced by Peter Moore. A bunch of the veterans of the original 1977 Toronto era got together and recorded a bunch of their fave songs from 1977. A fun ride with some of my fave tunes!

Big thanx for all the call ins (especially that long distance truck driver on the 401 who was heading east and digging the sounds!), emails, facebook messages and Heys!!!  Back again next week, hopefully with a full 90m of rock action.  Definitely going to do a trib to Vi Subversa (Poison Girls) which is long overdue.

    • Radio What Wave Playlist February 25/2016   Peter Moore/Jan Haust Special

In honour of former CHRW DJ Peter Moore (Simon Less was his onair name) and Jan Haust winning a Grammy for Best Historical Album, we decided to play some of the bands that Peter has recorded and/or mastered and Jan has released on his label OPM.

      1. The Demics....Talk's Cheap....from the New York City CD on OPM Records and this was from the very first Demics recording session from Feb 1978 at Awes Studio in downtown London. Peter mastered this release.

      2. Presence....Concrete....recorded live at the Embassy Hotel by Peter Moore and was aired on CHRW in the very early 80's. This is one of many binaurual recordings that Peter did at the clubs around town. If you saw a white styrofoam head sitting on a table at an event, Peter was recording. There were mics in the ears of the head to give the recording a stereo effect as if you were there. Presence were from Calgary Alberta and that sounds like Brian Lambert introducing the band.

      3. NFG...Cyanide....from the Domestic Animals cassette release by Peter Moore and Gerry Collins. According to the notes, it was recorded 10/22/1981, but that can't be correct as NFG were named First Date at this time and just a bit later, went back to be called 63 Monroe.  Judging by the sound, it's probably 63 Monroe but earlier than fall of 1981. Ya, i'm anal about these things. Peter and Gerry didn't tell the bands that this cassette was being released and many heard themselves for the first time, right here on CHRW!! As a rebuttal, another cassette was released called Animals Fight Back in which the bands were asked what they would like on the tape. Chris Richards of Generics and Mike Niederman were involved in this release.

      4. 63 Monroe....Hyjack Victim....recorded live at The Cedar Lounge Easter 1981 and aired on Peters radio show on CHRW.

      5. Shakin' Jack and the Rattlesnake Jakes....Ice Cream Man....also from the Domestic Animals cassette and recorded at Fryfogles Tavern August 1982. Fryfogles was located right around what is now the entrance to the downtown public library. Perry Puckett was heavily involved in this band and he's about to revive Giggleswitch, a band from a few years back.

      6. Crash 80's....Nowhere To Hide...also from Domestic Animals. Recorded at Larry's Hideaway in Toronto April 1980. Crash 80's released one excellent 7" that is fairly difficult to find these days. If anyone has the recording of the full set by Crash 80's I'd love a copy!

      7. The Zellots...On The Dole....recorded live at the Kent Hotel early 80's and aired on Peters radio show. The Zellots were probably my fave band from this era and were one of those bands that coulda and shoulda but shit happened.

      8. The Zellots....Shiek....1981 recording from EMAC Studios that Peter mastered.

      9. Blue Peter...Neon Girls...live recording from Fryfogles Tavern 5/16/1981 that Peter aired on his radio show.  I still vividly remember the first time we ever saw Blue Peter at The Cedar Lounge. Didn't have a clue who they were, but was told they were from Toronto and this would have been about 1979. For some reason we got to the club early, or sound check was running really late and we sat at a table near the entrance to the men's can. That was to the right of the stage, by the pinball machine. and usually we sat at the other side of the bar. Well the band was sound checking and sounding really good from where we were and suddenly the singer jumped from the stage, mic in hand and landed on the dance floor dancing up a storm all the while singing! It was one of the wildest dances we'd seen as he had the whole dance floor (it wasn't a big dance floor and was usually packed once the bands started) to jump around on! It was just so cool the way he got into it and really primed us up for when they actually started the set! Wish I had pictures from that night!!

      10. Rough Trade....Revenge Of The Killer Hairdressers....recorded live at The Spoke at Western University early 80's. Think I taped this from Peter's radio show and he was involved in some of the live to airs here at CHRW.

      11. Teenage Head...Picture My Face....recorded live at The Spoke at Western University 2/18/1981.  This aired live to air and I recorded it off the radio on my cassette deck. Back then, you had to be a student or a guest of a student to get into The Spoke and I was neither at the time. This went live to air with all profanities intact! And that's not Gordie Lewis on guitar, that's fillin David Bendeth as Gordie was injured from the car accident prior to this show. There's some nice comments from Frankie Venom in regards to The Cedar Lounge at the beginning of this one!

      12. Steve Blimkie....Now That You Say You Love Me....from his first LP on Ready Records. Peter mastered this one as well as many others on Ready Records. Steve was a Fanshawe MIA program student and did several shows at the Cedar Lounge. He was NOT liked by the Cedar regulars due to his stuck up attitude. Regular listener Kerry P called in to reitarate this!! Personally, I had nothing against the guy and thought he always put on a pretty good show!

      13. Sheep Look Up....Civil Disobedience....from their cassette recorded and mastered by Peter Moore, who did a lot of well praised work for Sheep Look Up. And as an odd coincidence, Sheep Look Up were inducted into the Jack Richardson London Music Awards Hall Of Fame right around the time this song aired!!

      14. The Secrets....I'll Cry Tomorrow...from the Teenage Rampage CD on OPM Records and mastered by Peter Moore. Toronto combo that were either ahead or behind the times as they were way out of step with the punk sounds of the day. But listening now, it sounds so timeless and sooooo good!!! Never got to see these guys back in the day and they did a very short re-union a few months back.

Out of time, but never out of tunes as Mustang Playoffs had to start. Thanx for all the phone calls, emails, facebook messages and Heys!! And Huge Thanx to the appreciative crowd at the Kangaroo Variety Magazine for listening to me babble about the above days and What Wave zine at your show!! It was a Blast!!!

Back again next week with a short special on Vi Subversa (Poison Girls) and we'll play some more music that Peter and Jan were involved with as well as some new releases!

    • Radio What Wave Playlist February 18/2016. All Black Show

Since it's Black History Month, it's time to do an all Black Show!!  First time we've done this and it wasn't easy getting the show down to 90m....SO many artists that should have been played!!

      1. Marcellus Wallace.....Dollar Bill....from their self titled debut CD. Local combo that put on killer live shows!! The picture above is singer Ajay in action at Call The Office opening up for Barrence Whitfield and the Savages.

      2. Jo Jo and The Fugitives....Chips Chicken Banana Split...from the CD Jamaica To Toronto Soul Funk and Reggae 1967-1974. Thanx to Alicks Gee for introducing me to this song back in 2006 as Alicks was our Music Director here at CHRW and used to play this one fairly often on her Magical Mystery Mondays show!

      3. Wayne McGhie....Fire...from his lone LP from 1970. Another  combo from Toronto and this LP is extremely rare as many copies were lost in a warehouse fire. Light In The Attic re-ished this one in 2004.

      4. Jackie Mitoo...Grand Funk...also from the CD Jamaica To Toronto. Toronto had lots of ex-Jamaica and Barbados who got together and formed combos back in that era (late 60's) producing some mighty fine tunes!

      5. Danko Jones...Who Got It?...from the Garage Rock! CD from 2014. Also from Toronto but now lives in Europe where he can make a living doing music. Danko and band were in town a week or 2 ago.

      6. The Dice....Typical Lies....from the 12" EP on Nardem Records. The Dice were from Toronto, late 70's/early 80's and would play places like The Cedar Lounge here in London. Not really punk, they sounded more like mid 70's Stones primed on 60's garage rock before moving in a more commercial direction. Singer Gary Lima was head of the MIA program at Fanshawe College here in London and drummer Hayden Vialva plays in several bands and is involved behind the scenes here in London. Hayden was a guest on Radio WW a couple of years back due to his involvement with The Kards.

      7. The Cult Heroes....Lexington....from the compilation LP Cruisin' Ann Arbor from 1982. Cult Heroes played here in London at least twice and put on memorable shows! Lead singer Hiawatha was a maniac on stage!!

      8. Death....Keep A Knockin'...from the For The Whole World To See Lp that came out in 2009. This was recorded back in the mid 70's and was never released at the time. The band consists of 3 brothers who have since put the band back together and play every once in awhile.

      9. Funkadelic....Super Stupid....from the 1971 Lp Maggot Brain. Big Chief released a version of this song on their first LP back in 1981.

      10. Curtis Mayfield.....Pusherman...from the Super Fly soundtrack CD on Rhino. The double Rhino CD has some unreleased and instros used in the movie.

      11. Last Poets...When The Revolution Comes....from their debut LP from 1970. The beginnings of Hip Hop!!

      12. Little Jackie Shane....Papa's Got A Brand New Bag...from the Jackie Shane LP from 1967. Toronto singer who dressed in drag and got away with it. Tough to do back in the 60's!! Jackie disappeared for many years, but was found alive a couple of years back living in the southern states. This LP has been re-released recently on the OPM label out of Toronto.

      13. James Brown....Night Train...from the Feels Good LP from 1966.

      14. The Isley Brothers....Twist And Shout...1962 recording from a greatest hits LP. This is the version The Beatles used for their hit record.

      15. Aretha Franklin....Think...from an LP called Star-Collection that has some of her 60's Atlantic sides on it.

      16. Gary US Bonds...Star...from the Rhino LP Certified Soul which collects some of Gary's late 60's singles onto one LP. This particular song should have been covered by The New York Dolls not only for it's lyrical content, but it's overall feel. Instead, The Dolls opted to cover 7 Day Weekend, another very cool Gary US Bonds tune!

      17. The Temptations....Cloud 9....from the double CD Psychedelic Soul. My fave Temptations release as this collects some phenomenal psych soul!!

      18. Sly and The Family Stone....Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Again)...from a greatest hits CD. Magazine covered this back in about 1980.

      19. Shirley Matthews...Big Town Boy....7" on Tamarack Records from the mid 60's. Remember this one being a hit on CHUM AM back in the day!

      20. Mighty Popo....Turaje....from the 2003 CD Ngagara and some nice Afrobeat. Saw this guy at Sunfest many years ago.

      21. Fela Kuti....Zombie....from the 1977 Zombie LP.This song takes a whole side of the LP and we ran out of time before getting to the part where the vocals kick in.  This is the first LP of Fela's that i picked up and made me a fan for life!!

Thanx for all the phone calls, emails, facebook messages and Heys!!! All greatly appreciated and that's what makes it all worthwhile!!!

Next week, we're doing a special on former CHRW DJ Peter Moore (known onair as Simon Less) and Jan Haust. Both former Londoners and they shared a Grammy Award the other day for their work on Bob Dylan's The Bootleg Series Volume 11: The Basement Tapes Complete. Congrats to both!! Peter lived in London in the late 70's/early 80's and was often seen in the clubs recording bands with his white mannequin head with mics in the ears. He went on to fame recording the first Cowboy Junkies LP. Jan was involved in London record store, Records on Wheels, the first place you could get punk/new wave records here in London. I spent a lot of money and time at that store!!

    • Radio What Wave Playlist  February 11/2016  Fund Raising Show

This is an all local show, featuring recordings from about 1978 to the present. It's a real mixture, mainly unreleased and live recordings, some of which have never been aired prior. And a HUGE thanx to all that took time to call in to pledge their support for CHRW....Dan, Kerry and Rena!!  Much appreciated!!

      1. The Demics....Factories....from the NYC CD on OPM Records and this is The Demics first time in the studio, Feb 78 Awes Studio in downtown London Ontario.

      2. The Demics...New Rose....live recording from 78/79 at The Cedar Lounge, London's first punk/new wave club.

      3. Uranus....Industrial Love....from a live to air on CHRW March 22/1982 from the Embassy Hotel. I remember recording this direct from the radio onto my Akai cassette deck back 34 years ago!!

      4. Orie Hitt Machine....Killer Inside Me....a 90's recording that might just have a member of Uranus on guitar.

      5. Frank Ridsdale....Little Red Riding Hood....recorded as part of a live to air on Radio What Wave 9/10/2010. Frank was in Uranus, The Sci-Phonics and many many other combos over the years. He has a weekly show at the Legion on Adelaide St every friday afternoon.

      6. Rockin' Bobby Harris....Honky Tonk Hardwood Floor...from a live CD called With Two Dollar Bill and His Bad Pennies. Local rockabilly legend who actually did some recording back in the days of real rockabilly (late 50's). Last time we saw Rockin' Bobby was at The Victoria, he had a walker to help him get to the 'stage'. Once he strapped on his guitar he was a Wildman!!! Singing and strumming and have a real cool time!!

      7. Black Holes....Miss Pearl...a recording from the Brunswick Hotel. Features local artist/guitar strangler Tom Hilborn ripping up the frets! These guys still get out and play every once in awhile and are a must see!

      8. The Dropouts....6 Feet Under...from the After School Sessions from 2005.  Sort of a cowpunk combo that moved to Vancouver and tried to make a go of it there. Some of them came back a coupla years later and are in a couple of bands, Gatgas and Excelsior here  in town.

      9. Duke Sedan and The Hi-Tones....Blue Jean Bop...from their only CD from 2008. Members have gone on to Twin Fin and The Thing From From Outer Space here in town.

      10. Dragsville....Royal Drag....killer instro from some songs they sent me a year or 2 ago. Only saw these guys twice and they've morphed into another combo who just played at the St Regis Hotel.

      11. Tuerto Loco....Nancy Sinatra....from a live to air on Radio What Wave 5/12/2011. Hank the Bookman and his combo come out of hiding now and again and play at the St Regis. This song originally appeared on a What Wave cassette back in the late 80's by Hank and Frank. One of my fave songs to come out of London Ontario!!!

      12. The Fine Print....Get You Alone...from a What Wave cassette from about 5 years ago. They did release one CD that is in this same vein of poppy 60's garage and is well worth searching if you dig that kinda sound like me! One of the few London Ontario bands to get a write up in The Knights Of Fuzz book (2014) by Timothy Gassen!

      13. The Standstills...Blues Radio...demo from 2008. The Standstills are a 2 piece combo who were living in London while they attended Fanshawe Music Industry Arts. Since then, they've moved back to Oshawa and now get regular airplay on the commercial stations across Canada and are doing quite well for themselves! Congrats!!

      14. Dave Campbell...The Time Is Now...from the CD Finding The Real from 2013. Picked this one up at local record store Grooves, as a giveaway at the front door. This song is an absolute masterpiece and reeks of the Faces mid 70's when they rocked like no one else!

      15. The Zellots...Lets Play House...from about 1979 when they briefly lived in Vancouver. This features Vancouver singer Heather Haley on lead vocals. Heather ended up singing in many Vancouver punk combos and is still active to this day.

      16. The Zellots...Do Me A Favour...from a live recording at Call The Office 10/27/2012 and was part of our Graphics Underground: London 1977-1990 opening party. This was the last time The Zellots played out and was supposed to be the first of a few live shows....we're still waiting. That's Kathy Destun on vocals, who sang with the band for their London years which is just about all of their lifespan. A band that coulda and shoulda.....

      17. The Stoves....Look Through Any Window....1979 live recording at the Cedar Lounge. This is The Hollies hit from the mid 60's done so sweetly with the harmony vocals!! Another band that coulda and shoulda...

      18. Radio 4...PTL....demos from the rehearsal room. This band morphed into Sheep Look Up, another band that coulda and shoulda....Both bands featured longtime bassist Mark Deroux  RIP!

      19. Flying Squad....Radiation Receiver.....from a 1988 demo. London's only biker rock combo and featured the over the top vocals (and facial antics) of Tim Murphy RIP!

      20. Boy From Nowhere...Borderline....90's live recording from Mortz's Place, also known as Leadbellys and now is a strip club! Long running combo who only did cover tunes and did them well!! They're back out playing and are as good, if not better than they were back in the mid 80's!! A personal fave local combo and not just because they played our wedding many moons ago!

      21. UIC....What I Want....live recording from Call The Office from 1985. There has been video of this show that's appeared on Youtube. and features a much younger version of me dancing like a fool up front of the band! These guys played our wedding too, but don't hold that against them!  Reunion show happening April 2nd in Oshawa as part of the Mike Star Tribute Show!

      22. NFG....Media Junkie....live recording possibly at the York Hotel in the late 70's. A fine power pop band that was ahead of its time and didn't know it. They've since morphed into 63 Monroe that still play out now and again.

      23. The Mogs....See The Mornin'....mid 90's recording from this Rob Munro (RIP) band. A couple years back, Rob reformed the band (with new members) in Hamilton and released a CD on What Wave Records.

      24. Hurricane and Able....Who's That Girl?....from a download called The Last Temptation from 2013.  Features local scenester and member of many bands, Shawn Larouge. We're still awaiting the London live debut of this combo!

      25. Marcellus Wallace....Brothers and Sisters....from their self titled debut CD. Soul fueled combo that put on absolute Killer live shows!!

Ran out of time, certainly not material! Hope you enjoyed this all local show as it was a blast to assemble and had to leave off so many essential London combos!!!

And a HUGE thanx for all the phone calls, emails, facebook messages and Heys!!! And thanx fo all that pledged their support to CHRW during the show....Dan, Kerry and Rena!!

Back again next week with an all black artist show as this is Black History Month and CHRW is doing an all black day on Feb 23rd.

    • Have we ever had a forum for favorite R'N'R movies ?  we're starting one, now.

It DOES'NT HAVE TO BE A MOVIE ABOUT ROCK'N'ROLL , AND A MOVIE WITH JUST ONE OR TWO OUTSTANDING MUSICAL PERFORMANCES IS PERFECTLY ACCEPTABLE.

Overlap is inevitable , and encouraged. Documentaries are ok , too.

The Girl Can't Help It , Riot on Sunset Strip , Rock'n'Roll High School , Let The Good Times Roll , It's a Bikini World , The World's Greatest Sinner , Blue Suede Shoes (UK) , The Sore Losers , HEAD , King Creole , Jailhouse Rock , Don't Knock The Rock , Hot Rod Gang , The London Rock'n'Roll Show.........
