We're talking noir, crime and pulp here.
What are you reading?
I'm currently obsessed with David Goodis. Probably the best hardboiled fiction I've ever read. Shoot the Piano Player was just incredible as was the compilation of short stories titled Black Friday.
I might even rate him over Jim Thompson if only for the fact that Goodis's characters are more likeable (yeah, I know that's not really the point in a JT novel).
The other absolute masterpiece I read recently was Rendezvous in Black by Cornell Woolrich. I have a low attention span when it comes to fiction; if it's not amazing, I lose interest. This was utterly gripping.
