The Remains - The Remains 1966 (****) you have to give this record 4 stars!!
The Count V - Psychotic Reaction (although in my opinion about 50% of the LP is truly brilliant)

The Outsiders (Dutch) - The Outsiders (first LP) drummer blows my fucking mind!
The Monks - Black Monk Time (I would have a hard time arguing that this record doesn't deserve the #1 position)

Of course I assume we are talking about the golden age garage albums (1965-1968)? This discussion would be meaningless otherwise (in my opinion). And we are talking about full LP's, right? I think that is important and really narrows down the field. So many bands recorded genius singles/songs. I could type all night about one-off songs. A full LP is the way to find the best of the best. Thanks for asking.

I find it hard to ignore the self titled Supercharger LP, and Sonics Boom and Never Been Caught are also up there for me.

I guess it really depends on what mood I'm in.

THE BEST OF PEBBLES Vol1 - GET PRIMITIVE - Love all three volumes but Vol1 is the cream of the garage from the pebbles series (The only one which is as close to BFTG).
GARAGE PUNK UNKNOWNS BOX SET- Yeah it's a box set but each individual album is a killer
TEENAGE SHUTDOWN - Jump Jive and Harmonize - Vol1 is still my fav of the series.
THE MUMMIES - Never Been Caught - They changed the scene and set the standard -God like album (yeah I know it's their second album but I prefer it to the first one and I'm refering to the band here)
SONGS WE TAUGHT THE FUZZTONES - Bit cheating as it's two albums - both amazing

The Nuggets box set (Volume 1, Rhino Records) is magical, but is IS 4 CDs, thus way too vast to be considered an "album."

So I'll vote for Sam the Sham & The Pharoahs' Their Second Album, the one with "Ju Ju Hand" and great covers of R&B and blues tunes including slow and greasy classics "Magic Touch" and "The Gypsy." Most the tunes had themes of magic, withcraft and voodoo. And it had a great cover (later used for at least one greatest hits compilation) that showed the band gathered around a cauldron with dry-ice smoke and a stuffed baby alligator.

Love Sculpture (Dave Edmunds' band in the 60's) did a pretty good version of the song. Rest of the LP (Blues Helping) were blues covers like Shake Your Hips!

"Summertime" is indeed a classic. The first version I ever heard was Sam Cooke's, which still is one of my favorites. Janis Joplin (with Big Brother & The Holding Company) probably did the nmost famous takes. Back in the mid '60s practically every working garage band in Oklahoma City did "Summertime" for a slow dance.

The Zombies do a great version of Summertime, but it is not thier song, nor is it Ricky Nelson's. It was written by composer George Gershwin for the opera Porgy and Bess in the 1930s and has since been recorded by over 2500 artists. Wikipedia sez: "Summertime is the name of an aria composed by George Gershwin for the 1935 opera Porgy and Bess. The lyrics are by DuBose Heyward and Ira Gershwin, and the song soon became a popular jazz standard. Gershwin is said to have based this song on a Ukrainian lullaby, Oi Khodyt Son Kolo Vikon (A Dream Passes By The Windows), which he heard in a New York City performance by Oleksander Koshetz’s Ukrainian National Chorus. Gershwin began composing the song in December 1933, attempting to create his own spiritual in the style of the African American folk music of the period. It is sung multiple times throughout Porgy and Bess, first by Clara in Act I as a lullaby and soon after as counterpoint to the craps game scene, in Act II in a reprise by Clara, and in Act III by Bess, singing to Clara's baby." 1945 version from the film Rhapsody in Blue:

I'm using an Ampeg Scrambler reissue. It's the only fuzz that I've found that can keep the lows going for bass ('75 P-Bass through a Sunn Sonara). Fat,fat sound that doesn't wash out!

My review of The Future is Unwritten and a new Claqsh concert DVD is HERE

Saw the documentary on Arthur Lee and Love titled "Love Story" made by Chris Hall. It wasn't bad, but I couldn't help feeling it could have been better. On the plus side it features Lee and Bryan MacLean shortly before their deaths, but on the minus side there's very little in the way of old videos or TV appearances. I thought a lot more of that would have enhanced the film greatly.
Nevertheless, the majority of the storytelling comes from guitarist Johnny Echols who comes across as very wise and lucid. Bryan MacLean had a very young and enthusiastic approach in his storytelling that's almost eccentric, as engaging as it is.
Some of the best stories come from Elektra founder Jac Holzman, telling the tale of Lee taking off with the band's advance money and returning an hour later with a brand new car, and giving the change to the rest of the band to split between themselves. Not funny, but very telling.
The movie is very heavy on "Forever Changes" and the making of the album, understandably so, and even goes a little bit into the "Four Sail" band, but doesn't delve much into any other post-FC records under the name Love or the Arthur Lee solo efforts (like "Vindicator").
Even if you're not a Love fan you'll find this movie interesting, and I can see this playing on IFC by the end of the year. The film screened at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood, introduced by Domenic Priore, and sadly only thirty-fifty people were in attendance.
