    • Yeah, that Bobcat howled like a sick animal. Vox generally weren't too hot on pickup waxing apparently.
The gig was great. They got a really tight schedule, so all is a bit chaotic, but I think they're really enjoying themselves. I next time they're gonna have to slow down a wee bit. It was such a good time though. They went down really well.
Mike's got everything ain't he. I think he sold his organ guitar though (those things are famously unreliable). He's got a couple of Vox Continentals tucked away somewhere too.

    • If you must know why R. Dean Taylor isn't soul, listen to his only hit "Indiana Wants Me" (#5 in the fall of 1970) and you'll see why he isn't considered soul. Yet he did co-write "Love Child" for The Supremes and "There's a Ghost In My House" is very big on the Northern Soul circuit, so go figure.

But I must concur with those who say check out the Norton catalog. They've got literally tons of raw soul and R&B so you can't go wrong with them at all. And while you're there, do check out their King Coleman release, "It's Dance Time" for some great raw stuff.

    • I have just realised you have to PAY now to listen to these shows! First time I discovered this site, everything was free. Anyone knows where to listen to more of Mad Daddy for free?

    • January 12, 2008 3:32 AM CST
    • Thanks to the internet I've finally been able to hear some of Mad Daddy's radio shows (which I knew about from the Cramps). Juste in case you don't know it, here's the link : http://www.reelradio.com/bt/index.html. Fantastic, especially the 1958 show in which he played Andre Williams and Link Wray! I wish there could be more of them online.

    • I haven't heard those, but would love to!!

    • January 10, 2008 7:34 PM CST
    • That certainly would be swell!

    • When I cycle to work is the best time to listen to the podcasts on the MP3 player.

    • January 12, 2008 12:06 AM CST
    • I actuallly work in front of a computer, so I just open the garagepunk podcast page and leave it open while I work away on the terminal server. Sometimes the music just takes over me and I lose all sense of rationality and stop working, not soo good but I have a great time, haha. I plan to get an iphone soon so that I can take the podcasts with me wherever I go.

    • January 11, 2008 10:00 PM CST
    • Actually my original point was how do you listen to the shows without getting chained to the computer? I mean a lot of people are too busy to really just stay in one place and listen to them. So, what would an alternate means of listening be? I listen to most of my music in the car since I drive a lot.

    • January 11, 2008 9:46 PM CST
    • Except when you want to listen to the podcasts in your car, or on the bus, or on a campout... portable mp3 players are all about convenience, baby! Having your entire music collection wherever you go (not to mention all of these great podcasts) comes in mighty handy! ;)

    • January 11, 2008 8:10 PM CST
    • But (to for those who refuse to get a portable mp3 player - much as I resisted for a long time), to listen on your computer is just fine!!!

    • January 11, 2008 11:34 AM CST
    • There are instructions on subscribing on the site. Check the "How to Subscribe" page...

    • January 11, 2008 11:33 AM CST
    • You don't have an iPod or other kind of portable mp3 player? That's obviously the BEST way to listen to them (by subscribing via the RSS feed and having them synced up with your iPod)... then you don't have to spend all that time manually downloading them and burning them onto CDs...

    • Any photographers out there taking cool shots of live bands or just wanting to share album cover scans or whatever can feel free to share their pics with the GaragePunk.com Flickr Group. The 10 latest photos in the group pool actually get displayed at the top of the wordpress blog at GaragePunk.com (in case you were wondering where those photos originated... that's where!). Thanks, kopper

    • What are your favorite of the current crop of surf/instro bands out there today? Any new ones you're excited about? Post 'em here (and please refrain from blatantly promoting your own band... at least in THIS thread)!

      Thanks,
