    • I use Rotosound Trubass black nylon strings on my PGW Phantom bass. They make the bass sound like a double bass.

    • I seem to recall reading something once about the strings in the 50's and 60's. I think it said that they were made of something that made it harder to get distortion. I wonder if that made a difference in the sound of Link Wray or The Kinks for example. What kind kind of strings do you use?

    • start your own 'garage rock' collection.

manilow, hooker, real kids, missing persons, falco. if it's in your garage and you rock to it, you just did your own math.

    • I had the pleasure of seeing them perform at Norton's SXSW showcase, Mary Weiss and the Reigning Sound, that is. Man, she sounded great!

    • I thought the Paul Weller forum was pulled due the constant porn spam that was being posted. It was also pretty much unmoderated, the record company or anyone connected to PW didn't seem to give much of a shit about the site, as most of it hadn't been updated in ages.

    • Great reply. If I did anything it would be during the 2-6 am range. Talked to Lars of The Intelligence for an afterparty and it turns out they're dropping out of SXSW. :\

I do feel Factory People were treated unfairly. It's wasn't the first time they had a party in their store, but this one fell during SXSW. The only one it seems the police had problems with.

Personally, I don't know what to make out of SXSW anymore. The entire thing puts a bitter taste in my mouth year by year. A festival that is suppose to celebrate the uniqueness of Austin but it makes it nearly impossible for locals to see a show. A town comprised of college students and badges are going for 500+?! Sure they offer wristbands, but they go so quick (not to mention I have a houston number and they won't accept that) and still run a bit pricey for a struggling college student. I'm not out trying to see huge headliners, but last year I couldn't even get into see smaller acts like Anavan or The Mae Shi.

I wouldn't mind so much, but these acts will usually only come by during SXSW. Once they make their round, they don't come back for a while. Ah well, I'll make due, like every year.

BTW, do you run the showlistaustin site? Gotta thank you for that, I visit that thing weekly.

    • Best way to find out this early is to check out myspaces.

As of now I've seen that The Intelligence and ANAVAN are playing.

I want to throw an afterparty with a band, but I hear the SXSW are big on shutting down unofficial parties. Meh, I'll try anyways.

    • I love the first Clash album...so much damn energy...and it sounds today more like an English garage band than so called punk.

    • OK, thanks, I guess I'll have to buy it now ;)

    • I agree it's an excellent release; I'm debuting it in my top 5 on tomorrow's radio show. You can always count on the Fleshtones whether it's live on on record.

    • Who did Take A Chance originally - didn't realise it was a cover?

    • Is this an American or an English publisher's release?

    • I got a call from my good friend Damon Gayden that his brother Gregor had passed away on Tuesday Jan 30th while in the hospital. Gregor Gayden was the vocalist for one of the original Seattle Punk Rock bands The Telepaths. Some say that the Telepaths did the very first Punk Rock show (beating out the Sex Pistols by a couple of months) I can't speak to that argument (someplace there are posters for the show that prove it) but I can say that I was saddened to hear this infomation. I don't know much more on the circumstances except he passed away the hospital here in Seattle. I will post more info as I hear about it. He will be missed. It has been a hard week for musicians here in Seattle. First Ben McMillan of Skin Yard and now this, it just wears people down. Here is some of the scant on-line info on the Telepaths; http://pnwbands.com/telepaths.html
