Personally I think The Pandoras "Hot Generation" takes the cake. But, I'll offer some other suggestions too. 5 others in no particular order... Chocolate Watchband - I'm No Like Everybody Else (and honorable mentions for "It's All Over Now Baby Blue", "Medication", and "I Ain't No Miracle Worler") Misunderstood - I'm Not Talking The Avengers - Paint It Black (hope that's not to obvious) The Damned - I Feel Alright Dead Boys - Tell Me (say what you will about We Have Come For your Children)

A buddy of mine (on the hideout as the crypt keeper) wanted to start this discussion but his computer crashed so here goes... Best garage/punk cover songs, give your top three, top five, top twenty...whatever. Let's just try to avoid some of the more obvious ones (i.e. Hey Joe, Gloria) or hell, I wanna know your favorites and if they fall in there then so be it..

Here's a couple of mine... starting with one of my all time favorites...

Well the Black Lips - Let It Bloom came out in 2005 and Their debut Self Titled ('03). Both killer records. I don't know if you were only interested in records that came out in 2000, but there's been some good stuff: The Reigning Sound's Time Bomb High School ('02) and Too Much Guitar ('04). Coachwhips' Double Death ('06). The Dirtbombs' Ultraglide In Black ('01) & Dangerous Magical Noise ('03). Hipshakes' Shake Their Hips ('07) (or at least I think the 2nd side of the record is great.) There's plenty more I can't think of at the moment...

I subbed for the Workd Music show at KSFR (Santa Fe, NM) Monday night. I did one half hour (plus) set of "world garage" music, drawing heavy on the World Beaters volumes I have, Thai Beat a Go Go, Surfbeat Behind the Iron Curtain, etc. Most of it's from the '60s, though there's some more recent stuff, such as the Japanese tunes and Dicky B. Hardy, a cool Stooge-influenced SLovenian band I saw in Albuquerque about 10 years ago. I have been through many fuzz tone boxes over the years. Currently I use two on my pedal board. First is a Boss Hyperfuzz in the second setting which delivers a huge abrasive fuzz sound that is very thick with a lot of bottom end ala early Black Sabbath or early Fu Manchu. The second is a early 70's Ibanez Wau Fuzz which has been very beat up. None of the tone knobs work however the fuzz is blistering like an asthmatic mosquito and the wah is a low octave bass range number that delivers a very warped out sweep. Instead of the "wee-ahh" sound you get from a Crybaby it is more "woo-owww" If I punch the wah pedal while either fuzz is on pushing it all the way into the high frequency it acts as a boost and provides a brain-melting fuzz that is pretty punishing. I play an SG with a Rio Grande P-90 "fat bastard" pick-up and run it into an Orange Tiny Terror that drives a Marshall 4x10 and a Avatar 2X12. Its a relatively compact set up that is perfect for any of the club show we play.
