...yes, I agree with you, alla the records you wrote are great, but in my opinion are not "classics"...for example I prefer the collins' production pre-dirtbombs (gories / blacktop / king sound quartet )...ok maybe it's my problem...

Well the Black Lips - Let It Bloom came out in 2005 and Their debut Self Titled ('03). Both killer records. I don't know if you were only interested in records that came out in 2000, but there's been some good stuff: The Reigning Sound's Time Bomb High School ('02) and Too Much Guitar ('04). Coachwhips' Double Death ('06). The Dirtbombs' Ultraglide In Black ('01) & Dangerous Magical Noise ('03). Hipshakes' Shake Their Hips ('07) (or at least I think the 2nd side of the record is great.) There's plenty more I can't think of at the moment...

hi everybody
first post here!!!!
days ago I thought about my personal list of best records
(the oblivians "play 9 songs with mr. quintron"
the infections "kill"
the revelators "we told you not to cross us"
the new bomb turks "destroy-oh-boy"
dura-delinquent "s/t")
and I realized they all went out in the '90s...
...so the things are really like that???!!!!
no so great records in the 2000s????
Am I wrong or not???

Personally I think The Pandoras "Hot Generation" takes the cake. But, I'll offer some other suggestions too. 5 others in no particular order... Chocolate Watchband - I'm No Like Everybody Else (and honorable mentions for "It's All Over Now Baby Blue", "Medication", and "I Ain't No Miracle Worler") Misunderstood - I'm Not Talking The Avengers - Paint It Black (hope that's not to obvious) The Damned - I Feel Alright Dead Boys - Tell Me (say what you will about We Have Come For your Children)

A buddy of mine (on the hideout as the crypt keeper) wanted to start this discussion but his computer crashed so here goes... Best garage/punk cover songs, give your top three, top five, top twenty...whatever. Let's just try to avoid some of the more obvious ones (i.e. Hey Joe, Gloria) or hell, I wanna know your favorites and if they fall in there then so be it..
Here's a couple of mine... starting with one of my all time favorites...
1. Preachin' the Blues- Gun Club (Robert Johnson)
2. I'm Down- The Mummies (Beatles)
3. Psycho- The Swamp Rats (Sonics)
4. Strychnine- The Cramps (Sonics)
5. Jack the Ripper- One Way Streets (Lord Sutch)
6. Like a Rolling Stone- The Soup Greens (Dylan)

I'd like to get a list of people - artists and groups - that people here would consider the best of the best from a GaragePunk perspective. If we can get together a list of say, 50 or so candidates, I'll conduct a poll here on the forum to elect members to a "Garage Punk Hall of Fame".
Candidates can be from any era. Just to get us going why don't I throw out some names off the top of my head.
How about...
Billy Childish
Mick Collins
The Dead Boys
The Devil Dogs
The MC5
The Monks
The Mummies
MX-80
The Seeds
The Stooges
Roky Erickson/13th Floor Elevators
Link Wray
And feel free to toss out any names you can think of. Even if you don't think they're quite "Hall of Fame" worthy but should at least be considered.
Lets see what we can come up with here...

I subbed for the Workd Music show at KSFR (Santa Fe, NM) Monday night. I did one half hour (plus) set of "world garage" music, drawing heavy on the World Beaters volumes I have, Thai Beat a Go Go, Surfbeat Behind the Iron Curtain, etc. Most of it's from the '60s, though there's some more recent stuff, such as the Japanese tunes and Dicky B. Hardy, a cool Stooge-influenced SLovenian band I saw in Albuquerque about 10 years ago. Here's what I played in that segment: Do the Wahtusi by Cat (Thailand) Midnight Mover by Free Beats (Papua New Guinea) Summertime Blues by Lolita # 18 (Japan) Sputnik Thema by Die Sputniks (USSR) I'm All Skinny by Sinn Sisamouth (Cambodia) Al Capone by Salvajes (Spain) Who's Your Buster Dolly by Dicky B. Hardy (Slovenia) 54321 and Rock 'n' Roll to Go by The Jerry Lee Phantom (Japan) Kaw Liga by Silver Sand (Thailand) You Don't Love Me by The Teenagers (Greece) No Puedo Amar by The Yorks (Peru) You can see the entire show HERE
