    • I reccomend Academy ANNEX in Brooklyn. The walk there from McCarren Park is not too bad or you can walk along Kent from North Williamsburg.

    • Hey all, me and my buddy Raymond are trying to start a label / magazine thing. Starting small via setting bands up on splits. We're trying to stick to Baltimore for the most part, but we'll likely branch out in the future. Any tips and advice I should take into consideration?

    • Captain PJ, radio DJ (WCUW) and a longtime local legend in Wormtown (Worcester MA), suffered a series of strokes in late November. A beloved figure in the regional music scene, the community has rallied to raise money to help get PJ back on his feet after a long (and still ongoing) stint in rehab hospital.

Captain PJ at WCUW 91.3fm (Worcester MA)

On Satursday December 27, 2014 we had a live show at Ralph's Diner with 12 bands rockin' out for PJ! In order of appearance, the lineup was:

      Dumpster Fire
      Pistol Whipped
      Hip Swayers
      Public Works
      Michael Severens
      The Per4Mers
      The Time Beings
      Kenne Highland
      M.O.T.O
      Classic Ruins
      Musclecah
      Bottlefight

A few videos are already on YouTube and more will be added over the coming weeks. A podcast of the audio from several bands is also available, courtesy of WURN.net. http://wormtownarchives.podomatic.com/ featuring The Performers, The Time Beings, Kenne Highland, The Classic Ruins, and Musclecah! YEE YEE!

    • that would be a step in a new direction for shake it, but i could see them taking up the challenge. that place is a fucking magical kingdom, and you will be pleased to know that i was just there today and bought 3 NIX comics quarterlies.

it's funny, when i read your initial post, i didn't make the NIX connection at first (i'm relatively new to this site). now it all makes sense.

    • I'd love to do a small press show in Cincinnati!  I wonder if Shake It Records would sponsor something like that. (A good case of my favorite comic shop in a town being a record shop!)

I've tabled there the past three years, with the crowd slowly building over that time.  They do a pretty good job of recruiting cool creators for the show...  It's very open in that you get long time veterans like Derf or Mike Gustovich, but also kids doing photocopier minis.  The most diverse except maybe for SPACE here in columbus.

Genghis Con is likely to be a little different this year because they are changing the venue (It was always at the Beachland Ballroom before) and this year they are asking vendors to pay for tables so that the event can be free admission to the public.  I think those are both good choices, but may cause a dip in attendance the first year.  We'll see!

    • as far as ohio goes, it seems like these underground cons are in cleveland and columbus, and yet cincinnati, where i am, will have 3 larger cons next year that all jockey for the same audience. as far as i know there is no small press con here.....

how is this one? have you been before?

    • November 14, 2014 8:03 AM CST
    • I'll be at Genghis Con in Cleveland all day on November 30th.  It's free admission if you want to swing by and say "hi."  (It's free admission)

    • Local 12" comp featuring Philly's greatest, rawest, cleanest, soulfullest pop, punk, garage, beat bands. This is the last Eeries record before Courtney Love bought their name for that other shitty band. I smell a collector's item!!

You can listen/buy from BandCamp or buy from Big Cartel.

    • I'M SORRY IT DIDN'T WORK OUT. SOME OTHER TIME.

    • Here's the latest Lyres Midwest tour update... Bottom Lounge in Chicago fell through, so we're kicking off the mini-tour in Green Bay, WI instead. Sorry John, no Chicago show this time around, after all. Hope we can work something out in Chicago and St. Louis next time. Here are the dates/venues for the April 2015 tour:

Thursday, April 16th - Green Bay, WI at Phatheadz.

Friday, April 17th - Milwaukee, WI at the Cactus Club.

Saturday, April 18th - Davenport, IA at Ragged Records. We'll be playing at the record store on Record Store Day, and doing a Daytrotter session across the river in Rock Island later that day.

Sunday, April 19th - Peoria, IL at Younger Than Yesterday. We'll play a short set at Craig Moore's record store (another Record Store Day-weekend gig), then later that night we'll play a full set at the Rail II in Peoria.

The lyne-up will consist of: Jeff Conolly on vocals, tambourine, and Vox organ; Timm Buechler on bass (Timm has played bass with The Paul Collins Beat, "The Nerves" [Peter Case/Paul Collins tour], and Dwight Twilley); and the guys from Orange Rooftops (Jeff Gregory on drums, Jason Eaton on lead guitar, and T.J. O'Brien on rhythm guitar). This is a rare "two guitars" Lyres lyne-up. Aside from our gig in Iowa City last Summer, Lyres haven't had two guitar players since 1980. Most of the material we'll be playing will be Lyres, but we throw in some DMZ for good measure. If you're in the Midwest, mark your calendars, and be sure to catch one of these shows if you can!

We're playing Chicago at the Bottom Lounge, Milwaukee at the Cactus Club, Davenport at Ragged Records, and Peoria at Younger Than Yesterday (and later that night at the Rail II). John and kopper, thanks again for your help! Sorry we couldn't set anything up in St. Louis. Maybe next time.

    • Great Prince Brian De Los Muertos image. Have a great time. We'll just be stuck , here , with tributes to bands that don't even warrant our attention,  puking contests and attempts at sexiness......

    • I saw Antiseen and David Allen Coe on the same night , about 18 years ago....Unfortunately , they were'nt on the same bill.  They appeared on Chic - A - Go Go a couple of years ago.    Their appearance is on You Tube.
