FINLAND GARAGELAND #1 - THE ACHTUNGS

  • The blog that's bringing you the Wild, the Crazy, and the Ugly of Finnish balls-out rock'n'roll, one-by-one.

    UGH!

Believe it or not, the Garagepunk / Garagerock scene is HAPPENIN' in Finland right now, IMO more so than in a looong time. However, situated in the smelly armpit of Europe as we are, I find that these great bands often just don't get the attention they very goddamn' well deserve! Hence this blog. Okay, enough with the rant, just stay tuned for some sick fuckin' stompin' and ball-bustin' bursts of northern madness.

But without further a do, ladies and playboys, I present to you:

    The Achtungs

These fine young twenty-somethings are from the region of Tampere. They put their own unmistakable twist of teenage despair into the LiveFastDie/Reatards/Creteens -style rawk, and man, do they fokken' make you pee your bananahammock! They've become a household name in the Finnish garage and punk circles alike, and have actually managed to turn ears abroad - they have a 7" and a full-length coming out on the Yankee labels Deadbeat and Bat Shit sometime in the relatively near future.

But enough with the CV, just press PLAY already!

    BONUS!

Joni and Jussi also have another band, Lähtevät kaukojunat (transl. "The Departing Long Distance Trains"). They infuse melancholic and melodic Power Pop with Ramones, early Blondie and Finnish seventies' schlager. If you're hung over on Christmas day and feel a sting in your heart remembering that high school sweetheart and the one perfect summer you had with him/her, and wonder how on earth did your life turn out the boring way it did, listen to Lähtevät kaukojunat. They'll understand.

Until next time! And remember, more than three shakes and it's playing with yourself!
