Movie Review: Rise of the Dead

  • Rise of the Dead
    2007
    D: William Wedig
S: Joshua Crook, Jeffrey Crook, Kris Scotto

I had heard that back in the 80's George Romero had done some clever legal wrangling so that no one could release a film with anything followed by "...of the Living Dead" or "...of the Dead" without his permission. He must have missed this one.

People turn into zombies one by one and commit gory murders. The goofy cops wrongly accuse a young couple. The girl Laura finds out it all has to do with a baby she put up for adoption years before. The whole story is told without much atmosphere or visual flair but does attempt to copy the midwestern/suburban feel of the original Halloween. it does have the acidental shooting death of a toddler and portrays
some too real (but scary) religious fanatics.

All the female leads have nude or undressing scenes, and the father of the cursed toddler is shown rear-entry fugging a girl in glasses who later kills him with an axe nude.

It turns out the ghost of the dead toddler is behind it all so Laura stops the rampage by screwing her now zombie posessed boyfriend.

The whole thing is only 71 minutes long. Shot in Athens and Marietta Ohio and Bethel, Conneticut.
