Freelance For The Soul.

  • DevilDino fade-in:

If you're like me - 2011 is the highlight of 2010. With the New Year here - I thought I'd take a moment to create a blog. Another blog. Like, my third. But this time I mean to commit!

First - I'm an artist. Struggling. Really struggling. I'm freelance and this blog will be primarily freelance. It takes a DIY ethic to be a committed freelancer and I'm starting to understand that I'm not cut out for the mainstream corporate world. So I'm here to plug my work and appeal to the more interesting fringes.

This blog is about my interests as a designer and I welcome any and all input about the links and work I list. Have fun! I eat criticism like cheese.. Big Bruisy cheese.

Since you don't know me - it's probably important to list my history and inspirations first. I'm a child of the 70's. Really. Born in 1967.. Summer of Love, et al. My conscious world was shaped by the post-hippie Seventies. The music I love and the art I'm drawn to echo this. I'm a fiend for Scooby Doo, Sid and Marty Krofft, and the Banana Splits. Kolchak scared the hell outta me and Midnight Special was one of my favorite shows. I watched Donnie and Marie, listened to Donna Summer, and ate and loved the living hell outta Burger Chef. I read any and all comic books I could get my hands on. I love 70's vans, hate 70's carpets and despise 70's polyester clothes. I'm old-school Atari and played more Pong than most people without tumors should.

You get the idea. Pop Culture is a big influence on me. Always has been and always will be. I get a lot of pleasure out of mining mindless trash for nuggets. The songs, the images, the stupid trends all reverberate with me.

So on the the meat of my post: WORK.

I'm seeking like minds for collaboration. See something in my work you think might be interesting added to the mix? Let me know! I've been limited on contact with other artists and think it's time to seek you out.

I'm also interested in finding new clients who need my skills for their own work. Have a hot band and want someone to make club flyers? Hit me up. Trying to wrap that single in a great graphic? Find me here :P

If you have something you need designed  - drop me a note.  I work under the name PAPERGHOSTDESIGN. It allows me to behave like a rock-star and it's just plain sexier than using my real name.

I specialize in flyer design, band logos, t-shirts, CD covers, posters, etc. PRINT oriented! I can do web graphics and some templates or Flash design - but that's gonna take a little more time and definitely cost more. I'm cheaper than a lot of my contemporaries, better than a few and meaner than most.

I'm not just retro-themed either. I keep up to date on design trends and I'm always looking to further my skills in new directions. I know how to turn a few heads. (Sometimes in horror or disgust. Hey, I'm an artist.. all reactions are valid.) I'll work on your project for much needed exposure too. But I can't stress how important $$ is to the creative muscle. Being homeless limits my availability and dampens my creativity.

So there you go. First blog down. I'm curious to get your feedback. Like my work? Awesome. Let me know. I thrive on flattery and could use a good ego-stroke. Hate my stuff? Cool. I can dig your insanity and see you two. Like your mama - I hate a lot of stuff I birthed into the world. The important thing here is that we're "communicating".

Upcoming: Freelance sites I follow and tips for the trade.
