I found the "Teenage Head" lyrics at: http://www.justsomelyrics.com/803827/Flamin'-Groovies-Teenage-Head-Lyrics I'm a monster got a revved up teenage head. Teenage monster California born and bred. Half a boy and half a man I'm half at sea and half on land, oh my Bye-bye. Got a woman, she's my hopped up high school queen. She's my woman, she's a teenage love machine. She knows how to turn me on and get me high and get it on and on, yeah she does. {instrumental break} When ya' see me, better turn your tail and run, 'cause I'm angry and I'll mess you up for fun. I'm a child of atom bombs and rotten air and Vietnams; I am you, you are me.
Is it my impression or are the Flamin Groovies' lyrics banned from the web (except some from the beatleesque era)? What about Flamingo and Teenage Head? Being from Brazil, it's not easy to figure them all out. Can anyone help?
Thanks PJ Dirty Water!
I followed up on your leads and after previewing a mono copy of The Sidekicks LP on RCA (1966) I'd agree with you, the album title track, "Fifi The Flea" is indeed a pile of crap;
still I did find 4 strong tracks - "Not Now" (which oddly sounds weaker in mono, to my ears), "He's My Friend", "Ask Your Friend" and "Ollie Wong" (for it's incorrectness alone, a keeper!).
Both "Friend" tracks feature solid fuzz guitar breaks and of course "Not Now" is a highlight.
The Redcoats aren't bad either, and the Dionysus reissue you brought to our attention can be audio-sampled on amazon.
The Sidekicks were from Absecon and Wildwood, New Jersey and did their 1st audition in Atlantic City.
The link you provided had a detailed bio told by the band: epic... truly epic... thanks again!
Some of the tracks have the Brit beat sound, some sound like summer of '65 Mojo Men, Beau Brummels, pretty rocking... no filler.
So The Sidekicks recorded at RCA... maybe they were from L.A. - or (like Elvis) Memphis?
Is the single in stereo? How's the flip?
Here's the ad copy and track listing.
I up'd track 14 on my Garage Punk Hideout playlist... starts off friendly before turning a killer corner, at the lead break. Stereo mix too.

Eggman's show is a radio show that he streams live on his site, not a podcast, unfortunately.
Buried Treasure Podcast is cool, too! http://buriedtreasurepodcast.blogspot.com/
today that the legendary and pioneering noise-rock band The Monks lost their original electrified banjo player this week. Dave Day, real name Dave Havlicek, suffered a heart attack and massive brain injury earlier this week and was on life support immediately after. The Monks' Eddie Shaw is quoted in a WFMU blog as saying:
Two days before the birthday of his hero, Elvis, Dave Day of the Monks suffered a heart attack and massive brain injury. He h

I have, like probably many in here, a hell of a lot of bad experiences with sound guys and sound checks. For me, a sound check CAN be useful, but 90% of the time it's a major waste of time. I'm more concerned about the order of appearance, where's are shit! and when do we get on. You can have a pretty good impression of the kind of sound guy you are gonna deal with just by looking at his t-shirt. If it's a RUSH t-shirt... you're in for trouble. We used to have all kindsa remarks on our equipement being shitty and mot tuned and shit... but none of this matters as it's the performance that's important... not the sound man's job, for me at least.
I've known a couple great sound guys in my town and would sigh of relief when I got to the club and saw them. I thought to myself "great! easy night!"... as when I didn't know the guy and he was clearly into reggae... I knew we'd have troubles. I'm always asked to keep the amps on stage low so that he could have "room" to play with them on his console... but come show time... I jack my amp right back up. Then, you're in control, he can't do anything else but cut the mics.
Lastly, I always sacrifice our first song. I pick one that's ok, but not killer. Usually it goes to shit because of the sound man. Then jack up your amps and start playing for real. It's fucking funny to see the guy jump on his console, head down, trying to rectify what's going "wrong".
Fuck these stupid gimmicks. They're just trying to sell more guitars with these stupid contraptions.
My guess would be also Bill Haley. But I could be wrong cause it kinda sounds like a standard that could've been done in the 40's.
I got a hell of a lot of inspiration from my ex-girlfriend. Hate and anger, those are the best fuels for a great punk song. Of course, the opposite is true, but for me, I vent all the shit trough the band. Check us out www.myspace.com/3dkids
I think a lot of it depends on what kind of music you like and what kind of music you want to play.
I like things VERY simple: I look for a 1 chord, then a 4 chord then a 5 chord and I play that. I generally like to have it go verse chorus verse chorus solo (which is just played over another verse and chorus) and then a final verse chorus.
It's not original at all, but I find that by using this structure you can really let you personality shine through in the way you actually play and sing your songs.
I think it's really easy to write lyrics about women, so I usually start with that then take what I like from the lyrics and alter the rest a bit so it isn't really about a woman anymore. I think it's okay to have about 98% of your songs be about love intrests and broken hearts and all that, but it's good to have one or two songs that aren't.
usually, i just don't think, i must be in a good mood or in veery bad mood.. then it works, i catch the guitar began to play nothing, and in 10 minutes or so i got a song. other times i'm totally sick over a band or song and i really want to do something like that, but still.. i do the same, i always do the same because i don't know nothing about composing techniques or play lots of covers.. so if i rip off, it's without bad intentions, i hate to play songs of others, i like to write songs, not to play other songs.
my principal problem is that i must be excited with the music i'm listening at the time, music that makes me want to do something as good as that..if not, bad problem.. i don't care a lot, always the same, and write bad songs that i will throw to the garbage.
play in your own way.. i like to use chords from everywhere, they help me lot better to write songs since i use an acoustic guitar (i play in my band bass and sing, but compose near everything on acoustic guitar)
hmmm....... don't' know why that didn't cross my mind. i'll let you know how it goes
Anyone ever hear the original version including megaphone sound of an oldie called "Stormy Weather"?! Well, I say that's the very first attempt of producing a genuine psychedelic garage song. I would include that in this list too.
Rob
You're Gonna Miss Me or Splash 1- 13th Floor Elevators (cliche, but we are introducing not educating)
Good Guys Don't Wear White- Standells
Jenny Artichoke- Kaleidescope (UK)
Blue Ave.- Beacon St. Union-
Children of the Sun- Misunderstood
Circles- Les Fleurs de Lys
Bad Time- Roulettes
I'd throw some international stuff on there too (garage/psyche wasn't just a US/UK thing):
The Mops (Japan), The Jacks (Japan), Nino Ferrer or Jacque Dutronc (France), 60's Beat Italiano comp., The Speakers/Los Vidros Quebradoes (Mexico), etc.

Don't have the lyrics but it is damn fine to find someone else who is into the Bicycles.
Actually my favourite combination in guitar choice is Gibson, with Fender amp. Gee, Johnny Thunders taught!
By the way, about the Damned...are you kidding me? I play without any tom, hi-hat, and sometimes without bassdrum too....though this is not exactly the drumset of my dreams! Well I like it at the end of the video by the way.
Just yesterday I saw a wonderful Pearl from the mid 1960s, this guy bought it for something like 50€...I couldn't believe it!
The other nice thing is when the kickdrum has "no holes" for toms, and eventually use a snaredrum "holder" (shit I'm sorry I don't know the English name, I hope you can understand me)
It has a better sound...they say...
what about Stagg drumkits? I'm shure they're shitty but for 150€ is it worth to try as a first kit? I've been playing drums for three months so..
Gina Vah - Hi! Yeah ~ I bought my Gretsch as my first kit, too. I love it, but I've been saving money for a while now to get a new kit. I was just curious about what other drummers play. All the musicians that I have ever known have a favorite brand or style of their instrument that they prefer (ex. the lead guitarist of my band loves fenders, while the rythm guitarist loves gibsons ). I'm definately going to make up my own mind on what I get, I guess I just wanted to see what other people play. Thanks for replying. I will check out your band's website. My band is at myspace.com/originalthree
Did you see the damned video that someone sent to this post? i thought that was pretty cool. i love the damned. saw them play in detroit years ago. anyway~ thanks again... girl drummers rule! robin
