The Zombies do a great version of Summertime, but it is not thier song, nor is it Ricky Nelson's. It was written by composer George Gershwin for the opera Porgy and Bess in the 1930s and has since been recorded by over 2500 artists. Wikipedia sez: "Summertime is the name of an aria composed by George Gershwin for the 1935 opera Porgy and Bess. The lyrics are by DuBose Heyward and Ira Gershwin, and the song soon became a popular jazz standard. Gershwin is said to have based this song on a Ukrainian lullaby, Oi Khodyt Son Kolo Vikon (A Dream Passes By The Windows), which he heard in a New York City performance by Oleksander Koshetz’s Ukrainian National Chorus. Gershwin began composing the song in December 1933, attempting to create his own spiritual in the style of the African American folk music of the period. It is sung multiple times throughout Porgy and Bess, first by Clara in Act I as a lullaby and soon after as counterpoint to the craps game scene, in Act II in a reprise by Clara, and in Act III by Bess, singing to Clara's baby." 1945 version from the film Rhapsody in Blue:

Wow,that's cool! I didn't even know that was a Ricky Nelson song. I thought it was The Zombies. There's probably a good chance that that riff was in some earlier blues song.

When I first heard this I thought it was one of them newfangled mash-up songs. It sounds like Ricky Nelson vs. The Blues Magoos. But it turns out, this version of "Summertime was recorded in 1962 -- four or five years before the Magoos' "We Ain't Got Nothin' Yet." You ahe to wonder if they stole their famous riff from Ricky. Saw the documentary on Arthur Lee and Love titled "Love Story" made by Chris Hall. It wasn't bad, but I couldn't help feeling it could have been better. On the plus side it features Lee and Bryan MacLean shortly before their deaths, but on the minus side there's very little in the way of old videos or TV appearances. I thought a lot more of that would have enhanced the film greatly.
Nevertheless, the majority of the storytelling comes from guitarist Johnny Echols who comes across as very wise and lucid. Bryan MacLean had a very young and enthusiastic approach in his storytelling that's almost eccentric, as engaging as it is.
Some of the best stories come from Elektra founder Jac Holzman, telling the tale of Lee taking off with the band's advance money and returning an hour later with a brand new car, and giving the change to the rest of the band to split between themselves. Not funny, but very telling.
The movie is very heavy on "Forever Changes" and the making of the album, understandably so, and even goes a little bit into the "Four Sail" band, but doesn't delve much into any other post-FC records under the name Love or the Arthur Lee solo efforts (like "Vindicator").
Even if you're not a Love fan you'll find this movie interesting, and I can see this playing on IFC by the end of the year. The film screened at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood, introduced by Domenic Priore, and sadly only thirty-fifty people were in attendance.

We use lots of reverb both live and in recording. We have a vintage 70's PA with some very since built in verb. Also - we sometimes turn the gain all the way up on the vocal channel, and turn the volume down to add a little crunch. You can also sing through a head phone speaker.

I like to put just a tiny bit of delay on my vocals.

Guitarist Matthew Odietus of the legendary punk band THE CANDY SNATCHERS died on June 28 in his hometown of Virginia Beach, Virginia. An official cause of death has not yet been released. Taking their name from an obscure, bizarre, and trashy 70's horror flick late one night after drinking heavily, THE CANDY SNATCHERS formed in 1992. According to a November 2006 write-up on ToeStubber.com, "the band's tried-and-true array of destructive gimmicks kept the bookers guessing. Depending on mood, singer Larry May or axer Matt Odietus would sometimes cut their own scalp, '70s pro-wrestler style — up by the hairline or wherever the blood would flow most effusively. Once, at CBGB, Matt bled out so much he almost fainted, and eventually had to be carted off to the ER with a t-shirt turban wrapped around his noggin. Larry would smash glass bottles at random. Willy used lighter fluid to set his bass on fire, with the aid of excited audience members who’d often get outta hand with the flammables and torch Willy himself. Drums were routinely collided with and obliterated." In November 2006, Matt spent 17 days in jail. I bought the Rumble/Swag 7" in the last couple of years for about 7 or 8 dollars. Norton is still selling the Jukebox series for 5 dollars a pop.

I couldn't for the life of me figure out what you meant by 'duke box series', until I realized it was a typo and you meant 'Juke Box Series'. These were the ones that were reissued by Norton in the 1990's, the tracks themselves were recorded for Swan in the 1960's.
I think they're probably still in print.

My advice to you: play the hell out of them, loud enough to annoy your neighbors. They're quite handy if you are a DJ too.

I just scored a whole suit case full of records and in there were 6 link wray 7''s.
All but 1 are from the "duke box series", all in mint condition with orig sleves (cept for that 1, rumble b/w I fought the law)
Anyhow... I dont think I will sell them but does anyone know if they are worth anything?
