"You Really Got Me" is the nastiest, best guitar tone ever. Period.
And any other good band for that matter. I know good bands are usually less about gear and more about songs, but I'm fascinated by this stuff. So give me all the details. Strings, picks, cords. pickups, mics. It's all fascinating.
I'm such a pitiful nerd that I've actually written info when I come across it. Such as:
Link Wray on "Rumble" - '53 Les Paul > Premier 71 30 watt amp
Dave Davies on "You Really Got Me" - Harmony Meteor > Elpico 1x10 amp > Vox AC30
Agreed. I did the same thing, and was amazed at its lack of functionality, and overall lameness. That said, LS's Sirius channel is nice for those for those rare occasions when I rent a car, and the LSUG syndicated show actually inspired me to get back into radio seven years ago. That's another seven years of my life wasted. Thanks, Little Steven! When I went on Fuzztopia, I was struck by how much better the Hideout was/is. Maybe you should get a gig as a paid consultant for Renegade Nation, and show 'em how it's done. Whoever designed that site is basically stealing from LS's Sopranos residuals.
Have you even checked it out? It's really pathetic... and I ain't just sayin' that cuz I run a similar site. I mean, I joined it months ago (probably last summer) and I just noticed it's still in "beta"... it's just really poorly designed and organized, and I haven't found one single RSS feed anywhere on it. The forum looks like an old BBS from the early '90s, the videos appear to be just a collection of thumbnails that, when clicked, open the YouTube player in flash pop-up window... nowhere to rate it, favorite it, or comment. For a "social network," it appears to be lacking even the most rudimentary social networking functions of every other social network out there! Just really strange that someone with such big corporate sponsors and connections would create "the coolest rock'n'roll lifestyle destination on the Web" that pales in comparison to what any idiot (see: myself) could create on Ning! WRONG! Finally one of them responded, and he told me that he'd made a mistake, that he found the Hideout when he Googled for "Fuzztopia." WTF? Yep! Try it yourself. The second link that comes up is to this discussion about Fuzztopia.
I dunno... *shrug* I thought that was kinda funny.

Good to know. Thanks. kopper said:
Most (except for maybe a handful) of our shows are actually on Blip.tv, and some of the more recent ones are either there or Mevio.com (some are on both). That's where they're uploaded and stored. So even when the blog goes away, you'll still be able to find most of them there.

Hopefully past show will still be up? There's been times when I've been without the internet at home and haven't been able to listen and am only NOW trying to catch up. Also hopefully, it'll be metioned in Latest Activity when you upload? As I've actually not subscribed to anyone yet.
The main feed (the one with all the shows) is going away, as is the GaragePunk.com blog. The 'casts are moving over to the Hideout, but now you'll have to subscribe to each show individually.
Hi, I might be out of the loop but I've been noticing these messages lately: PLEASE NOTE: This will be the final episode of the Mal Thursday Show that is posted on the GaragePunk.com blog. As of January 2010, you’ll find Mal’s podcast posted on his blog at the GaragePunk Hideout. If you would like to continue receiving his podcast, be sure to subscribe to his show’s feed using the link below, and/or befriend him on the Hideout. Thanks! I read a similar message from the "Get Drunk and Play Records" blog, too. Are podcasts getting the axe? What's happening?
St. Louis has a few good ones: Vintage Vinyl, Euclid Records and Apop Records (the last one is definitely the most "underground" of the three... it's very similar to Goner Records in Memphis).
Since they invented cd's, I've been getting into different styles of music.
Don't know if you'd call it obscure, but the Goodbye Babylon 6-cd boxset of fire & brimstone pre-war gospel is amazing - especially the sermons (over the songs).
Sublime Frequencies releases are on my list too, especially the Middle Eastern and African ones, and the frog song on the Singapore-A-Go-Go cd sounds like some Jamaican dub thing.
Speaking of Africa, for some reason, I really like Pekos/Yoro Diallo (which reminds me of Capt Beefheart) and Tinariwen, although some people say this stuff sounds like Santana.
I'm not a fan of "Tak Tak punk" or "myspace crust" which is where someone in Malaysia, or somewhere else on myspace, has heard Agnostic Front or whatever, and does a straight up imitation with nothing to add. Probably the internet's fault, right?

God asked me to pass a message on (thats God! as in never wrong God.) The Apemen from the Netherlands (i think), Satan's Pilgrims, Phantom Surfers and The Mummies did some pretty cool instro-thrash.
