and the Dead Kennedys? I know it's not exactly garage rock, but last night I saw Jello Biafra playn' with Guantanamo School of Medecine, and I'd remember that great San Fran Band...Dead Kennedys uber alles!

Tam White - legendary singer / founder of Edinburgh, Scotland's 1960s R&beatsters THE BOSTON DEXTERS and THE BUZZ has died yesterday of a suspected heart attack. He would've been 68 next month. Tam was a phenomenal singer, and in the garage punk world his voice will surely always resonate due to leaving behind the audacious and terrifying 1966 Joe Meek-produced freakbeat-punker 'You're Holding Me Down' recorded as by THE BUZZ, and written by the 'Dexters / Buzz guitarist Johnny Turnbull...Tam also made his mark with a couple of earlier garage/R&B stompers, especially the rarefied stomp of 'Nothing's Gonna Change Me' waxed up for the the Contemporary label circa 1964. The 'Dexters were whisked off to London, where they would record a couple of 45s for Columbia, before a split happened, two leaving and two staying with THE BUZZ being the result. Once the beat boom died Tam stayed in London, and would go on to carve out a singing career on the Middle Earth (including the great psych-etched 'Future Thoughts' b/w 'Lewis Carroll' 45) and Decca labels that took him well into the 70s. He then briefly had his own Scottish TV show...before the blues came howling back into his heart, and he pursued that, and his jazz leanings right up until his death. RIP Tam
I'm using a clone of a roland bee baa fuzz. it's a goodin.
The show is actually called "When Giants Walked the Earth: A Musical Memoir." In it, Andy refers to himself as the Christopher Columbus of Punk Rock and tells true stories of being at the beginnings of punk rock in America and the UK. It's about a 2 hour affair, with classic Dictators songs played acoustically interspersed with tales of The Ramones, The Dictators and the early punk rock scene in NYC....it's hilarious, enchanting, scary and sad all at the same time...and a treat for the whole family as the younguns should hear these tales. Here's a link to The Andy Shernoff Appreciation Society on facebook: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Andy-Shernoff-Appreciation-Society/111480742209768?ref=mf#!/pages/Andy-Shernoff-Appreciation-Society/111480742209768?v=wall&ref=mf A couple of the dates are listed as facebook events there...I can't seem to find one site that lists all of the shows, but check out the facebook link as he may be coming to your area sometime soon. Below is a picture of Andy at Call The Office in London Ontario Canada....6/11/2010....We have the 'special honour' of being the smallest crowd that Andy has ever performed for....and we are ashamed.
What is "Andy's one man Christopher Columbus of Punk show"? Ya know, a link or something would be good here...

It's weird, but the only other comp I can think of (other than WAVY GRAVY) that mixes trailers in with the music is SWING FOR A CRIME. That's the only one that's coming to my mind right now, anyway.
Did anyone mention MADNESS INVASION? That's a great one, too... esp. if you can find the rare 2-disc set.

Little Richard and Gerry would come after Iggy in my opinion.
Damos Kalaitzidis said:Yeah I was gonna say Iggy too. Especially on "TV Eye", god damn that song is wild. He does sound like a bobcat on that one. Funhouse in general is crazy (in a good way). Best fucking rock 'n' roll record of all time, wildest one too. Also on "Search and Destroy" towards the end "heeeey heeey heeeey heeey yea yea yea yea yaaayye yayeeee! yayee!.."
Also, (besides Iggy) within the protopunk, punk, and rock n roll, but not exactly garage rock, genre I want to include Richard Hell -- he's more of a "Wooow!" and "Yeoow!"screamer though, think "Down at the Rock & Roll Club" (when he says "Scotch and soda! Yeow!" and later on too, he says "Woooow!" and "Yeoow!" like 5 more times in the song), not as loud and crazy as the aforementioned rock n roll screamers, but Richard does a good job at keeping it original and individual -- and the other guy I want to include besides Hell, is David Johansen baby!
"Aaaaaaaowww! "Yeaaah yeaah yeaa!" "Talking 'bout perrsonnalitee!"
