Late '80s, what? As far as I know the first Las Vegas Grind & Viva Las Vegas fests didn't happen until the late '90s, like '98 or '99, if I remember correctly. The first Shakedown came around a few years later. Hot Rod Ron said:
Does anyone know if there will be one next year and if so what the dates will be. I used to go to the ones in the late 80's and through the 90's
The RSS feed will subscribe you to all of our shows, that's what it'll do. John said:
Hi kopper.
Looks like a little false alarm. i saw some new shows on the site here but I did not have them downloading in itunes which has been up for a couple of days. Since I posted I got the new Nasty Grind and Get Drunk and Play Records.
I used to subscribe to the old Garage Punk download which got all the shows. That has worked for a bit after it was supposed to not work. That is not a safe thing to do though. I had to go subscribe to the individual shows to keep up. Another issue is new shows. Got to keep up lol. I am not too up on RSS. What is that going to do?

That's weird... not sure. I'll have to check the iTunes listing and see what's up. Meanwhile, you can subscribe in iTunes using our RSS feed: http://feeds.feedburner.com/GaragePunkPodcasts
It´s happening with me too. I´ve made the same question as you here but i didn´t get any answer. I feel sad cause i like the shows. I´ve got a lot of them in my Ipod.
Hi,
I used to get my downloads of all the shows via iTunes. Past month or so I have been wondering where all the shows have gone. Each time i check the site here threre are new shows but I am not getting them via I-Tunes anymore. Any one know what's up? What is the best way to keep up with the great shows here. I need these shows lol.
I remember a few weird gigs, on stage ready to do the first number,Bang! first hit of the snare and the skins gone! and no spare snare*Shit! what we gonna do now! Another one our drummer broke his stool midset had to play the rest standing up* Good gig though! As a live engineer I once knocked myself out in the dark on stage, gone for 30 mins or so.Damn low ceilings! Been electrocuted a few times but always managed to somehow let go. http://elvispelvis.com/electrocuted.htm
Prices for those things around here are over $500! That's a little more than I was wanting to spend. But it sounds really good! Even used, they're going for $450 and they seem to be in really high demand by the DJ guys so the price isn't going down any time soon. FREDDI said:
I don't know about softwares, but I'd suggest you a drum machine. The latest models have much realistic sounds(don't sounds like plastic robots),and they're easy to learn.I got a Boss dr880 and maybe it's not the cheapest model but you could check for prices and trades.
Theyìre compatibles with PC and you can use it with any software.

I am VERY new to digital recording (I'm still pretty opposed to the whole idea) but have to be out of necessity (apartment's too small for all of my recording gear and the neighbors aren't the biggest fan of the music). Also, my partners in crime all live in different states so we're trading songs we've written, parts of songs, etc to put together practice demos. Anyway, I need some suggestions on drum software that is easy to use and doesn't sound like a drum machine (I can find those anywhere and am not interested). I don't care about price (I'm not paying for it - my buddy Torrent will track it down for me or maybe somebody on here would like to do some trading). Any suggestions? I'm doing all of my demos with Audacity (it's easy for me to use but I'll take suggestions on easy to use recording software as well - low learning curve; I don;t have time to learn really complex new software. I've used Acid Pro, FL Studio and Cubase and they were a pain in the ass) so I can use pretty much anything. It has to be PC. Kinda getting desperate so any suggestions would be great.
Sounds cool to me! We need clips! David Alexander Niehoff said:
I make the best out of what I got, and that ain't much at all. I'm not really much into performing so really all I have is some basic shit. I'm not in a band right now so I only have my solo project in which I use nothing but a bass guitar to create my shite punk. I use a Crate BX-15 for my amp, and my Fender J-Bass for all the Guitar parts. For the "Guitar" tracks I crank the distortion, and Overdrive while strumming chords on it. It does sound a lot like a regular guitar and if you didn't know it wasn't a guitar you'd think it was. For the bass parts I either use my J-Bass or if I want something with a little more BOOM I use my Washburn P-Bass. For Drums I unfortunately use a drum program since I don't own any drums. I think it sounds decent enough though. Since I can't sing worth a fuck I use as much distortion on my vocals as I can while still keeping it where you can understand what I'm saying.

Yeah it basically is a Gretsch Corvette w/ minibuckers. I'm debating a filtertron or soapbar bridge replacement. I hear ya on the neck issue; I like the fattest necks possible. This one is weird. It's got a wide fretboard with a slim and very flat neck. Takes getting used to but it is good for bouncy and fast bar chords. That and the trebly/chimey pickups make this guitar into my posterchild for getting first album Clash tones. Jamie said:
Congrats dude those look awesome! How is the neck on those? A friend of mine has an Epiphone Les Paul and the neck is surprisingly thin. I usually like my necks a little thicker than normal. You can get those for a great price too. If it wasn't similar to the Gretsch Corvette I have being mahagony and 24 3/4 scale I would be very tempted to get one.
Brandon Reed said:I just picked up one of those Epiphone 66 Wilshire reissues. I'm quite impressed. I wanted one after seeing Wayne Kramer/Sonic Smith/Deniz Tek using those old epiphones. Surprisingly mine sounds fantastic, looks cool, and I don't even think it needs the hardware upgraded. It excels at chimey jangly tones on up to dirty Stones and Thunders when at full tilt. Just an FYI! Always try before you buy though. I have a feeling this one was a lucky find.

Well the only dirt pedal I have right now is a Proco Rat that I won in a giveaway from Proco and I will say that it's pretty versatile. You can use it as a dirty boost into the amp or set it for a fuzz type sound. There are probably more pedal companies now than at any time before so you're options are pretty extensive. What kind of sounds are you going for? Gareth Brown said:
Hello Jamie, thank you for your comments - i'm sticking with vintage Fender amps and will be looking up those you mentioned! What pedals do you recommend if any?

As far Fender bass amps go I would recommend reading up on some of the blackface and silverface bassman circuits (some of the circuits stayed the same into the seventies I believe) or a Musicmaster combo bass amp from the seventies is supposed be awesome. I wouldn't mind having one myself.
Gareth Brown said:I'm in the process of trying to find band members in the Bournemouth/Dorset area (UK). I play an original 1967 Supro through a Fender Champ from around 1972. I can get a good sound from it but feel very limited at the moment - I think i'm gonna need a bigger amp and maybe a couple of pedals (analogue of course). I was thinking of playing through a decent old Fender bass amp as I have been advised that this often produces good results. Any suggestions?
Cool man! Thanks for the advice! Brandon Reed said:
I get great dirty chime out of my JTM45. All I have to do is crank the master volume and I get into Dave Davies circa 'I Need You'. If that isn't great garage tone, I don't know what is.
I think more than the amp, it's important how to eq. Lots of treble w/ mild overdrive and fuzz to kick you for leads.
People also say don't use Gibsons for garage rock and again I'd say with the proper eq and playing technique you can get a great garagey tone. YMMV but I have to stand up for my own gear. :D
The original Nuggets was released by Elektra in 1972 (worth about 80-120 smackers in good condition) , by the way. Why don't you listen to these records anymore? And what exactly are you listening to at the moment? Good move deciding to keep these treasures, though!

Had a Jagmaster when they first came out, japanese made, pretty basic humbucker tone and a really crummy tremolo/bridge that went out of tune anytime I used it. It's a cool looking guitar, but I wasn't diggin' the humbuckers. I currently have a Danelectro '63 reissue as my back up, replaced the bridge pick up with a GFS Pro-Tube and the volume pot with a '1 MEG' - big difference with these mods, louder and snottier, still bright as hell, but a little meaner, if that makes sense? Anyway, both guitars are night and day compared to sound/tone, it all depends on what YOU like. http://www.guitarfetish.com/Pro-Tube-D-Fits-Danelectro-Guitars-3-Windings-Available_c_191.html http://torresengineering.stores.yahoo.net/gu1megpottrt.html
Fuck cassette tapes. I wanna start a tape trading network for 8-TRACKS!!! Who's with me?
I'm thinking of putting together a "surf punk" special episode of the Surfcast for Real Punk Radio, too, just to squeeze on sometime. Incude stuff like JFA, Agent Orange, the Surf Punks, maybe Blotto's "I Wanna Be a Lifeguard"... just goofy surf-punk stuff like that. Any suggestions or requests? If I can get an hour's worth of this sorta stuff, we'll run with it... or surf with it... or whatever.
