This is some seriously scary shit. I turn 40 on July 17th. I remember how freaked out I was supposed to feel back when I turned 30, but for some reason I wasn’t freaked out at all. “It’s just a number,” I told everyone, “big deal.” Well now that NUMBER is 40, and it *is* kinda freaking me out. 40 just has that boring MIDDLE-AGED ring to it. People will start accusing me of going through a mid-life crisis whenever I wanna do something extraordinarily fun or adventuresome now. If I were a major league ballplayer I’d be looking into minor league coaching or doing radio play-by-play. Ugh. Oh well, at least I still get carded for beer occasionally. I guess as long as that happens I can kid myself that I’m not REALLY middle-aged. Anyway, to celebrate (?) my sadness, there will be a Birthday Bash for me at the GearBox at Lil’ Nikki’s on Saturday July 16th, featuring some great bands… The Detonations (Alive Records, from New Orleans, LA) and two fantastic locals, The Gentleman Callers and Thee Lordly Serpents. I’m trying to get someone to DJ this thing, too. No, there’s no way in hell I’m going to DJ my own birthday party. I plan on doing too much partyin’ (and cryin’) for that much responsibility.
