About the GaragePunk.com Podcast
The GaragePunk Podcast is a network of home-made, low-budget “radio show”-style programs that focus on wild and obscure garage rock, proto punk, surf, R&B, broken blues, powerpop, punk rock, new wave/no wave, noise, and trashy, primitive rock’n'roll from the past, present, and future. Our show hosts are ordinary people — music fans just like yourself. None of us are professional disc jockeys. We just have an interest in music and culture that is anything BUT ordinary. Wherever possible, you’ll be directed to websites where you can purchase the music you hear on our shows (hint: check the links in the sidebar), although it’s likely that at least some of what shows up on our shows here will not be commercially available. Unfortunately, most of the older music featured on our podcasts is so obscure or hard to find that it is often difficult to track down copyright holders for each song, especially when we feature a daily podcast that’s produced by a team of DJs, each selecting music from their personal record collections, from promos sent to us by bands and labels, or by royalty-free “podsafe” music the podcasters find available for download on the Podsafe Music Network. We feel that in these cases it is better to include this music than not, mainly because we are trying to expose this great music to a niche audience, and with a new medium. It’s important to keep in mind that these are very low-bit rate MP3s. The shows range from 64-80 kbps mono, which is a very low-quality MP3, much lower audio quality than even a “good” sounding MP3, and way, way lower than CD quality. Our intent is not to subvert copyrights, but to feature interesting, royalty-free music that might otherwise never get heard, and to help promote the bands, musicians, and record labels creating it and putting it out. All of our shows are posted under Creative Commons license that does not allow for commercial or derivative use. If you are the creator or copyright holder of material included in one of the programs here and want it removed, please contact the producer of that particular show and they will take care of it. If you like a particular artist or song you’ve heard here, we encourage you to seek them out and buy their music. If you’re having trouble finding where to do that, post a comment on that individual show’s entry on the blog and the podcast host can then help you track it down. If you represent a band or record label that would like to be included on our shows, we recommend you join the PMN and upload your music there. We have a pretty full schedule of programs right now, but we are always willing to consider adding additional shows if we think they have something unique to offer. If you have an idea for a program or just want to get in touch for whatever reason, please shoot us an email at podcast (at) garagepunk (dot) com. All we ask is that you first sign up over on Blip.tv. All of our podcasters host their shows on Blip, not here on GaragePunk.com. All we are doing here is creating a single RSS feed that delivers these shows as a daily series to those who are subscribed.
