I used to date Abbey Lavine, who was one of the Assassinettes in The Soul Assassins. Through Abbey, I met Dino Sorbello who's a friend to this day. Back in the 80's I was a college radio DJ and these bands, especially the Fuzztones, were at the top of our charts. Had it not been for the 80's garage bands that I loved, I would never have bought a guitar (Vox teardrop) and started my own band.

I DJ'd last night and played exclusively 80's garage, mod, and psych records and people still dig these sounds!

Thanks for keeping the Fuzz on!

Hi Blair,

Fuzzfest was entirely filmed--I have, or used to have, a dubbed and dubbed copy of it on VHS.
Outta Place were OK that night--two weeks later, they were garage gods--musta been the Kool-Aid.

Dear Blair,

Great shows! Then and now. I sweated to these bands all those years ago (probably stepping in your spilled beer), and still have the records, the tapes, the photos, and the memories. Thanks for keeping the wax spinning faster than these bands spin in their graves!

Carole, as you may know, I'm a huge fan of The Mosquitos. I went to junior high and high school with lead singer/songwriter Vance Brescia. It was The Mosquitos that got me nuts for live rock'n'roll back while I was still in high school. Through them, I discovered the whole NYC garage scene. My life's never been the same. You can be assured that The Mosquitos will appear at least once on the upcoming Long Island episode of Highs in the Mid 80s.

In addition, listen for them to show up in an upcoming episode of Pop Goes... and/or Speed of Sound. PLUS...Since the call is out for anyone interested to do Out of the Vaults shows, I've gotten permission to take some old Mosquitos' live tapes out and convert them to podcasts, as well.

Thanks, Rob. I appreciate it.

I'm hoping to do New York City, Volume 2 eventually, but first I'd likely do Long Island, maybe NJ, PA, and possibly Rochester/Buffalo, NY.

One friend has promised to do some Canadian (and maybe Calfornian) stuff. If you want to get on the Highs in the (Mostly) Mid-80s bandwagon, I'd love for you to do one.
